The description of many units (mostly barbarians) says that they are undisciplined and can charge without being ordered to.
After two campaigns with barbarians, I have never noticed such a behaviour.
Has it ever happened to anyone?

Yeah, i've seen it happen. But the range it happens at its likely you'd be charging them anyway. Try taking some impetous troops and putting them on the front line, then letting the AI bring forth Peltasts or the like, should cause them to charge once the Peltasts get into firing range.

I've never seen it happen. I've marched Hastati right up to spitting distance, threw all my javelins and stood there close enough to beat them with my mens penis', and the Barbarians still refuse to bloody charge!

But I have cavalry disobeying order, I issue a order for them to charge the enemy cavalry and they go bloody charge the bloody armoured hoplite head on! SHEESH! I wish they bloody obey my orders and don't go sucidal and screw me up!!!

Lurker, I agree. I seem to have that problem much more often with barbarian cavalry units than with infantry. I want them to attack archers or velites, and they charge head on into the triarii or phalanx. It would be okay if their stupidity didn't get them wiped out, but such is the fate of those who disobey my orders. :furious3:

Oh I think I got that behavior too, at first I thought it's my mistake. (Since things are different from Medieval in which my knights often led suicide charge.) So I've often spare another unit to support the impetuous guys who happens to charge on spear/pikemen head-on somewhere on the flank. ~D

It's not that horrible here. I've been charging all the time in Rome, after all.
