View Full Version : Some problems with graphics and stability of STW WE

I have recently started my first (ever) STW campaign, and I have had some early success. I have taken the Imagawa provinces and most of the rebel island, and now I have to choose between Mori and Takeda for my next move. The game looks great, but it has a cumbersome UI in strategical, and battles are a bit hard for me. But I manage to outnumber the enemy and assassinate their generals, so far.
The problem is I am having issues with game graphics; the screen blacks out and then is restored again very quickly. This happens both in tactical and strategic overview, every 5-10 seconds or so. Very annoying..... This is not like the flickering in the menus.
And I can't select 3d rendering device, only software rendering. Is this normal?
Stability issues: when I end turn the game crashes. This has happened to me twice now, and I had to reload a previous autosave. This has made me save the game every turn.
i don't know about the technical stuff, i'm no expert, but someone else will problably help you with that. Just send PM to a mod. if no one responds.
you'll become better in battles just if you practice a lot(i've just won my first expert battle, i'm learning too ~ ) the problem is, if you can win them only if they are outnumbered, you always play a slow conquering campaign, try to attack with less units then the enemy once, then you'll become better in that too. Don't worry about facing mori and takeda, i once had war with 5 at a time, wasnt a problem too. Just attack the provincies that you want, and you'll deafeat mori and takeda before you realise it. (btw. takeda will be a very easy enemy in the beginning, just use yari sam, once you have aki build a mine and your money won't be a problem anymore too!)
hoping this was helpful information!
welcome to the org m8, glad we have another new shogun player!

I think youre doing pretty damn well if you can handle a large army well - I win when playing on expert mode but am awful with large armies and tend to keep mine with 5 units or less...

I have no cavalry yet, only basic yari and archer units, and I have been able to have large armies because I fill up with cheap yari ashigaru. I have had some success with using them in flanking and as shock troops.
I also use ashi as garrison in newly conquered provinces and position my main force for the next attack. The ashigaru units actually become useful with some experience; a 2-3 honour unit don't scare when someone cough nearby, but the fresh units will run if you just look at them, hehe.
heh, Ive been considering using the Palace as my main building upgrade in future - surely with increased morale the Ashigaru would actually be quite effective? I agree that they are damn useful for flanking, though it normally costs the battle if one unit starts running and panics the others... Also, I find them much more useful if you put them onto Hold Formation: They seem to last much longer into the battles.
