Bugger!! I installed a no-CD crack as soon as i got RTW, so i didn't have to bother putting in the disc, and now something horrible has happened!! I broke the no-CD crack, and i've lost the disc!! Mourn for me my friends, because until my brain thinks up a solution, my RTW days are over!!

how do you lose a disc? seriously I've never figured that one out
I put all my discs in their cases into my CD rack if I'm not using them. Simple.
ps - atm you're not missing much anyway
Didn't you back up or rename your original exe before copying the no-cd crack into your install folder?
And how did you lose the install disc? You kids nowadays. Man, I treat my cds and dvds like their made of purest platinum; clean, polished and in a safe, secure place. Better check your room upside down and inside out before buying another copy.

Why?
I did it too for the following reasons:
1 Cd drive noise, simple i dont like it...
2 Warranty. The hard disc has longer and its more durable than the dvd drive
3 My SATA hd is faster than the cd drive...
I play MP so dont ask me if i have an illigeal copy...

I feel for you...
Nothing worse than opening a game box from your shelf to find it empty and then remember, with a sense of rising panic, all the old cover disks you threw out the other day!!!
Been there... Done that...

Simple, buy a new one!!!
Or re-download the crack. And be more careful with it next time.

Sometimes I hear of people using a No CD crack to save the wear and tear on their discs, but really? I have been gaming for almost 20 years, and I have never ever ever ever lost a disc due to overuse. Hell, I rarely lost floppies to overuse. And it's not like I'm keeping them in a vacuum inside a clean room. Maybe I'm just lucky.
Check eBay. You might be able to pick up a disc only set cheap. It wouldn't surprise me if someone sold the separate disks on eBay. Sucks when you only lose one though.

I broke one cd. It was my M:TW disc number one.
That sucked. Good thing VI was out, even though I was using a no-cd crack for M:TW.
I recently grabbed a $10 jewel case only at Wal-Mart, so I can install it on my new computer. Now I have two serial numbers, hooray!
Here's to the patch! ~

He is simply some nooblit who never had the disk and downloaded the crack thinking he could get the game for free and is trying to get one of you to give him an idea on how to not spend his milk money that his friends usualy beat out of him anyhow.

Tell me about it!!! I lost my Blitzkrieg CD, and I was really starting to like that game. I think I must have put it in a Blockbuster DVD case and returned it to Blockbuster. That's the only possible thing, because I watch DVDs on my pc. I've searched everywhere and I've now given up. I don't really feel like buying the game again though. The only games that I've bought twice are Starcraft and MTW. The first one I had to sell while I was in school, because it was ruining my GPA and the second one I sold because my comp sucked and I couldn't even look at the strat map without it going completely white with only the armies and the cities being visible.

It is funny that I could tell you are new to the ORG just by reading your post. Then I saw, you are a junior member. If you stick around you'll find out that people here are a lot friendlier and nicer to each other and posts like that, although not falling exactly in the "flaming" or "unacceptable" categories, are considered distasteful at the least. The ORG does not tolerate piracy, and you won't find people on here asking for illigal copies, codes, etc. Besides, from reading many previous post by Mikeus, I figure he is not that type of person.
I feel for you, Mikeus, but like someone else said, you are not missing much. I'd go back to MTW if I were you. Even with the patch, RTW will still be a simple "eye candy" and nothing else. MTW has much more depth and replayability.

In regards to Wh1teWolf (only)...I couldn't agree more.

Oh...Mikeus ....et tu Brute?
Search the entire region...leave no stone unturned! Failing that...accept the loss, and buy a new one?

How can you brake the no CD crack
My little bro downloaded the MP patch, and it screwed up the no-CD crack. Very annoying....and now i'm searching my dump of a room for the CD. It's prolly in 'the pile', lying under my papers and undone homeworks.

1) If you are going to insult me, at least call me a nooblet, not nooblit.
2) 'how to not spend his milk money'? How cute. You really are a class-A comedian.
3) If you want to slag off people, then go to the .com, because the .Org is a nice place which doesn't accept little gits like you.

You would think that there would be a no-CD crack for 1.1; or even that it would be possible to have more than one Rome executable on your hard disk, one with the crack applied, and one without; and that you could happily use the crack knowing that you had a legitimate copy of the game, and were not some cheating warez lowlife.
If only all that was possible, you could use the appropriate exe depending on whether you were playing online or not. Then you would only need the CD for multiplayer.
But of course, that is all idle speculation, because we all know that cracks are illegal, and tantamount to holding a gun to CA's collective temples, whilst rifling through their wallets.

I just hate having to put in the stupid CD all the time. There's nothing wrong with that.
How is it illigal when any joe nobody can just make one easily. Trust me it's easy as hell.
No-CD cracks (if you actually bought the game) have "legitimate" uses. Convienence is one. Allowing you to lock your discs far away from the hands of small children is another. The wear and tear on your discs and disc drives is minor, but if you play the game enough to wear out a disc, you definitely don't want to break the disc (you may want to consider going outside some though).
People on the Org don't run warez versions of TW, because if you didn't pay for it, you aren't allowed to complain! ~D

I had a no - cd crack for AoK back in the day, I never used it once I realized that the music was on the CD and I couldn't hear it without the CD in the drive.
does RTW have thse kinds of ramnifications or is it pretty cut and dry?

My version of RTW (was) pretty, cut and dry. It worked just like i had put the CD in, only difference being the CD wasn't in. And btw, CD-cracks are legal, as long as you don't use them for things such as installing the game on your buddy's PC, and then downloading a no-CD crack so he can play it.
