There is an interesting change of behaviour that is supposed to happen in the patch where marching units will use their shields properly. I'm looking forward to that. Presently, the best way to kill hoplites is to shoot them at long range on the march, before they switch to phalanx.

I actually throught that the shields worked.. Weird I missed that. I do know that the Urban, Triaii and the Hestati shields works fine. But the phalanx. Acoording to the small shields it could maybe be explained that the offered a small amount of protection.
I was interested to read that. Did anyone see Time Commanders last week? They were advising the team on how to use archers, saying their most important use was in 'fixing' units; ie, to stop the enemy maneuvering. The theory was that if you're firing volleys of arrows at an enemy unit on the move, they'd have to stop while they raised their shields and took cover. 'That's odd,' I thought, 'never noticed that in Rome...'
Maybe now they will...

Lucius Cornelius Sulla: When a phalanx unit is marching in the phalanx formation they have their shield by their side with their arm lowered. This is very annying trying to attack an enemy who has archers as the Phalanx units get absolutely slaughtered(Well..Alot more than they should).

I just hope CA doesnt accidently make it that a unit charging can use his shield against arrows as if he were marching
I'd say you'll all be pleased with the new shield bonus for marching (not running) troops. ;)
