Ok, I've just come from a multiplayer battle to register as my first real win, and this is how it went:
Aparently, my comp. lets me play RTW MP everytime I either install a patch or reinstall the game, and once I close the game for the first time after playing it and trying to go online, that's when all games appear as Not Compatible. Anyway, I joined this historical battle as Parthia, while my ally was Armenia, and we were fighting Brutii and Scipii. When battle started, I noticed Scipii had a large cavalry force, and were postioned behind the Brutii, who had infantry and archers, with very little cavalry themselves. From the beginning, I sent in a HA unit positioned far to my right, and with Catabrian Circle started taking out Brutii left flank Legionaires. They were being killed, and formed Testudo, but that's when things started going bad.
My ally, Armenia, started a full scale offensive, were beaten back, and had most of their soldiers killed, except for some cavalry which escaped. During this time, I had come up with a sort of plan. While they were fighting, I sent in a single Cataprhac unit to attack the legionaires in testudo formation. They hit, and Brutii started dying. The plan backfired when Scipii sent in about half their force at the single cavalry unit, and were joined by Auxilia. After that unit had been wiped out, the Scipii sent their cavalry after the unit of HA, which I retreaed behind my ranks. I told my ally to form behind me, and after taht was done, I sent two units of HA forward, and started exchanging fire with the few Scipii archers, who were out of arrows after a minute. They tried to lure me in, and after a short game of cat and mouse, I used HA in a melee charge, eliminating them. After a little more time, I killed off the Brutii archer unit, and had come up with a plan.
I told my ally to send forward their cavalry force, and they did. It was a distraction, that worked. Soon, all Scipii cavalry headed after them, and killed them off. That's when I sent my HA on the melee offensive, routing three Brutii auxilia units, and headed for a foruth. The Scipii had just been done with the Armenians, but without infantry support, they would perish. So basically, the Brutii only had four units of legionaire left, one of which had 50 men left, then others about 150. I was about to charge at them (They were still all in testudo, and I had gotten behind them killing the Auxilia), when the host terminated the game.
I know this isn't a victory, but I had 1000(out of 1500 somthing) men left, the Brutii infantry would be wiped out, and the Scipii would not last long without support, so I'll consider it a victory. Comments on it, and yes, that whole story was pretty pointles.
Also, I've found something out. If I could reinstall the patch, maybe the MP would work, so does anyone know what files I would need to delete to be allowed to reinstall patch 1.2?
