Currently playing Armenia at VH/VH, the game is just very hard.
Its so competitive that, whenever they get near your city, they would attack.
From my cities, I keep seening these troops of armies form different fictions, walking about with their bar full, meaning that they must have a max number of units that the game handle.
I keep on saving up and build up my troops in number, when I am full, I go and try to take another settlement, then, all these full troops comming form nowwhere, attack my towns.
ANyone like have a simular experience?

If it's too hard, why not play on an easier difficulty level, or play an easier faction until you get a better hang of the game?
But if enemy troops are "coming from nowhere" then I suggest you build some watchtowers so you get advance warning of when enemy armies are approaching. Also, you can build forts on your province borders to help slow armies which are coming to attack.

Normally I would let them attack me, but only if I have A) archers stationed in the settlement with walls, or B) stone walls with a unit or two of archers. AI is stupid enough to be lured up to the stone walls and be killed by the tower. The trick is to sally forth the first turn before they get siege weapons built and assault the settlement.
Keep a cav unit (to lure the enemy to the walls) and a couple of archers behind and take your main army with you to conquer. If, on the way, you see a tasty chance to take out an enemy army on the march toward your territory, take it. It will be less taxing on your defending forces.
Normally, it's best to take out the enemy settlements as quickly as humanly possible. The less settlements they have, the less troops they can produce.
