OK, i have installed MTW on my laptop, just mTW not VI,,,, i can play a quick battle perfectly fine, but when i try to start a new campaign, i can pick the era and the faction, i click to get to the next screen which is the loading of the campaign, but, it then takes me to the in-game menu screen,(the screen that comes up when you press escape),,,and i can enter those options,, but the campaign never loads,, and it stop sand exits out of MTW and takes me back to my desktop,,, i have a Toshiba Satellite 2405-S201, i cant find what video card i ahve i ahve searched everywhere and cant find it,, does anyone know what to do? any help would be greatly appreciated, i read someone has a Toshiba Satellite laptop and it works fine,,, he posted in the thread the "total noob here, couple of questions here" thread, i think it mascen rufus?
I had a similar problem - almost any time it tried to transistion to campaign mode, it would just quit - crash to desktop.
The solution I found (on these boards) was to roll back my Nvidia drivers - and poof - everything works great (I too only have M:TW so far).
If you search the forums, you can probably find the thread where this solution was discussed. It may not be your problem, but it sounds like there is a chance it is - worth a try...
Good luck

thanks, although i have no clue what Nvidia drivers are lol,,, i will look for the thread that had the solution, hopefully i can get this up and running,,, i am still open to anyones suggestions or if they can find the thread as well and post a link in here if anyone knows about. thanks
I had the same problem with my Nvidia card using some very recent drivers on my PC. The solution most definitely is to remove the newest drivers and reinstall some older ones.
There are several threads on the boards with regards to this issue with newer Nvidia drivers - I'm not at my own PC to check at the moment, but I think I had to go back to the 61 issue to get it to work with my FX5200 but my new 6800GT runs OK with the latest release.
Check www.nvidia.com for the latest drivers fro your device (the latest release is 66.93)
To find out which you are running go to Start > Run then type dxdiag and hit OK.
Click on the display tab and you will see lots of data including the manufacturer of your display device and the driver version you are using.
If you're not sure how to uninstall and reinstall your device, post back and I'll try to help, but pls note that after 1730GMT today I son't have access to the net again until 0900 GMT tomorrow - looking after my folks dogs while they are in Rome and no PC :embarassed:

Hi Maximus, yeah 'tis me with the satellite (1110) - the main problems I have are: lack of video memory (mine has a Toshie board in, 16Mb on the label, but I can only use 12 of them, can't do anything with the drivers - never seen an update issued....); and a couple of years of MTW seemed to burn out my CD drive, so after a while it would no longer recognise the disk (!!!). I now use an external CD ROM via USB, not ideal as the game is no longer portable.
I'm sure you can pull up your video details through System properties or Control Panel. I'm using a friend's PC for the Net at the mo so can't check instantly.
I run the game pretty "light" - usually no music, fauna turned off, small units, 20% pyrotechnics and mostly it runs okay. Can be a bit jerky for those HUGE battles though.

You have an S3 Savage video card. Definitely not the best to have.
Do you have DirectX 9 installed?
Do a test to see if it works properly with your video card.
Here is some info from another website from a person with similar problems as you (I cannot vouch as to whether this info is correct or not):
: : : I need a new driver for S3 Graphics SuperSavage/IXC 1179 , it cannot support directx 9.
: : Card name: S3 Graphics SuperSavage/IXC 1179
: : Manufacturer: S3 Graphics, Inc.
: : Chip type: S3 SuperSavage/IX
: : DAC type: S3 SDAC
: : Display Memory: 16.0 MB
: : Driver Name: S3SSav.dll

: : DDI Version: 7
: : Display Tab 1: Hardware-accelerated Direct3D 9 is not available because the display driver does not support it. You may be able to get a newer driver from the hardware manufacturer. DirectDraw test results: All tests were successful. Direct3D 7 test results: All tests were successful. Direct3D 8 test results: All tests were successful. Direct3D 9 test results: Display driver does not support API (DDI version too low)

: i'm not sure if this is the true update but it removes the directx problem:

The website has the correct driver from S3 website. You have to select the driver which does not have the 1179 in its name. If u do it, it works fine and passes the test.
