How do you stop Hastati from charging?

But seriously, does anybody know how to get jav tossers to expend more of thier javs before dashing in with swords?

If you right click on the enemy they hastati will do what they did for real throw one wave of javelins then pile in, if you put themon fire at will they will when you right click on the enemy again throw ALL of their javelins then charge in.

The auto fire is too strong i think. If u do auto-fire and Guard mode on, most enemies would route before hitting your battle line.

Even better, put a mercenary spear infantry just behind your velites in one thin line and guard mode on. This would stop any cavalry charges and make sure all the pilas are spent.
