View Full Version : Bonuses from Buildings

Another question I've had, I know many of the buildings you build that aren't directly related to troop production give you certain bonuses for having them (i.e. morale from churches and mosques), but I don't know what if anything I'm getting from a lot of those cool, specialized buildings, and whether I should build them, or where. Some are good about explaining the benefits they give, but others' in-game descriptions are pretty limited and vague.

I've heard that a military academy will improve troop discipline, that a university may produce higher acumen generals, and I think I may have even heard somewhere that building better troop production buildings such as swordsmith or armourers guilds can improve trade (I guess by offering tradable manufactured goods?), but I don't know if any of these are true. ~

Also, do the Chancellory, Constable's Palace, Marshal's Palace, Admiralty, and College of Surgeons provide any other benefits besides the titles that come with them? Do the upgrades to the Royal Palace give you anything besides making knight or ghulam bodyguard units available? Do Chapter Houses, Ribats, Monasteries, and Reliquaries give you anything besides crusades, jihads, and inquisitors? Do taverns & brothels provide any bonuses besides assassins and spies?

I apologize if this has already been discussed, and if there's a good guide or file to explain it all could someone please direct me to it? If not and anyone has some good information I'd love to hear it. Thanks!

Also, is there any reason to build or upgrade trading posts in provinces that don't have trade goods and ports? :uneasy:

military academy, university - don't know, because I'm a blitz player I always finish the game with 100% conquest before I even get to build up my tech tree to that level

swordsmith and armourer definetly don't affect trade

title buildings (chancellory...) give titles, emissaries and some units such as Varangian Guard

reliquary - inquisitors

tavern&brothel - population happines

edit: trading post - you can't build them in provinces that don't have trade goods

PS. Yea, they made me a full time member... Thanx!

Hi,

I'll try to whip off a couple of quick responses.....

You need to have trade goods in a province before you can build a merchant. Merchants can make a lot of money in provinces with ports if you have ships connecting them to friendly/neutral ports, but they don't make much in the interior provinces. If I have a lot of money I may build a couple vanilla merchants on the inside, otherwise I don't bother. I do upgrade my merchants in my profitable coastal trade provinces, though - you make a lot more.

The religious buildings give troops that you build there moral bonuses. Adding moral is kinda like adding valor - makes your troops less likely to route. Churches, monastaries, requiaries, cathederals if you are catholic. They also give you agents like bishops, cardinals, and (grand) inquisitors. I believe that they also make the populance happy and catholic.

Some buildings need to be present in combination for you to get certain troops. For example, in order to get feudal knights you need to have built to a castle and have an armorer's workshop, horse breeder and royal estate. (And of course you had to build several other buildings before you could build those ones....) I would suggest you check out some of the FAQ files that you can find under the "files" link at the top of this page - it may help you plan you builds in each province. (It's taken me some practice - when I first started I was always building the wrong things. After a couple times playing with each faction you start to learn what works best for them, though.)

If you build to the highest level of some buildings it seems that the troops they generate seem to come with more valor, and occasionally a command star or two. I believe this is partly driven by the stats on your king. However, I seem to have noticed that when I build to "guild" level on horse farms that I can generate some really good jinettes or mounted sgts. Perhaps someone can confirm or refute this for me?

HTH a little,

P.

I build inland merchants when I have an especially long border with a pesky neighbour. That seems to lessen the chance of being invaded.

Very interesting - thanks, I'm gonna try that.
