View Full Version : Greek late general's bodyguard?

I'm playing my greek campaign, and well into it, with only Rome, Spain, Britain and part of Germania left to conquer i noticed that my highly advanced Greek Armies generals still have only early bodyguard unit...
why is that, i wonder?? is it some kind of bug or am i overlooking something? obviously most of my key cities are fully developed, with every possible building already in place...
if it is a bug, does anyone know how to fix it? i could prolly just set late bodyguard unit as default from the get go but i don't want to unbalance the game, plus i'm curious what the deal is.
thanks in advance for your comments

Did you install the 1.2 patch after you had already had the Marian Reforms?

If so, then the generals will not be updated to their later forms. This event has to occur with the 1.2 patch already in place.

no, i play on 1.1 as 1.2 was incompatible with some of the mods that i use.

Hey smarty pants, he was talking about the greeks, not the romans. Senta, do what jambo said and download the 1.2 patch. Ignore the bit about the marian reforms though.

I've not had too much experience playing with the other factions. When do their generals get updated? I'd always thought at the same time as the Romans, but apologies if that's not the case. Regardless, Senta, the fact you're playing with 1.1 is your problem.

oh, so this was a persistent problem with v1.1? if there's no other choice i will have to apply a patch again (it's worth it for some nice fixes, especially phalanx from my point of view) but lots of my mods and/or textures won't work with patched RTW... :(
anywas, thanks for your suggestions guys
is there no other way, i wonder?

install 1.2 and build the imperial palace

That's what I would have thought, but it DOESN'T seem to work. I installed patch 1.2 (great overall!) and then started a new Macedonian campaign. I kicked the Romans out of Italy before they could build an imperial palace there. I built my own imperial palace in Thessalonica, and another in Tarentum (just in case it needed to be on the Italian peninsula). My generals' bodyguards were still the old crappy greek cavalry style ones. This applied to all new generals spawned afterwards too, and retraining them at a city with an Imperial palace didn't help.
Does this mean that other factions' upgraded bodyguards are dependent on the progress of the Romans? Because if it does, that sucks like a vacuum.

Ok could we have some confirmation???

This is the second thread I have seen about this but nothing substantial about have come forth. Anybody managed to get the upgraded generals?

I'm playing a Parthian campaign and I just got "Eastern Armoured Cav." bodyguards. The AI also has upgraded bodyguard units so it seems to be working....

I´m playing a greek campaign as well and got no upgraded bodyguards.
But I noticed that the description of the Imperial Palace doesn´t mention the general´s upgrade, so I guess they are not supposed to get them, though I can´t understand why, the early greek general is one of the worst general units IMO.

Well late game (88 BC) in my Julii campaign, the remaining Greek generals have upgraded bodyguards, so this thread is done.

Well then why aren't I getting them? Am I making some kind of dumb mistake, or do I need to reinstall the patch?

The Upgrade happened around 218BC in my campaign, the same time the Marius reforms kicked in. If you continue an old 1.0/1.1 campaign only new generals get upgraded it seems.
