View Full Version : Officers and elites...
Since I have begun to mod my game I have fallen into a pit regarding officers for the units.
I have with trial and error found that the barbarians have no officers (no barb_officer) but greeks have one. But rather than try every culture I thought some of you guys might know which factions had officers and what they might be called (for instance barbarians might have an officer called barb_chieftain rather than officer).
Also are Superior and Elite tied only to the stats of a unit (if it has any effect at all)? I mean a Silver Shield Pikeman is in my eyes an elite, and should have the title, but he is not considered such. And there are others as well.

Kraxis,
I haven't looked at the officers much yet. Take a look at the descr_model_battle.txt file. It has a list of officers of sorts. There are probably some hidden ones as well.
I need to get rid of the blue Spanish captain. That one is a bit odd looking on the field.
Hmmm... found out why the Greeks get a Macedonian officer. There is simply no tga file for them (it is listed as missing by the devs in the file). I think I will tinker a little with it so that the greeks get a Seleucid officer. That seems the best compromise at the moment.
Sad to see that there are no barb officers, nor any for Carthage. Meanwhile east and rome has a whole lot. East 4 (standard and musician of both normal and heavy type) and Rome 4 as well (standard and centurion of early and normal types).

Well, in my folder Data\models_unit\textures there are several files named as:
OFFICER_BARB_GENERAL_XXX.TGA.DDS (XXX is the faction name)
OFFICER_BARB_LESSER_GENERAL_XXX.TGA.DDS
OFFICER_CARTHAGE_GENERAL_CARTHAGE.TGA.DDS
OFFICER_CARTHAGE_LESSER_GENERAL_CARTHAGE.TGA.DDS
OFFICER_GREEK_GENERAL_XXX.TGA.DDS
OFFICER_GREEK_LESSER_GENERAL_XXX.TGA.DDS
Is that what are you looking for?
Cheers. ~:cheers:
No those are the generals and captains... I'm looking for officers such as the centurions and greek officers.
I just stumbled onto some files that included a greek musician... Sadly my attempt to create one failed. I wonder has anyone seen this and actually made one?

After reading this you remembered me to fix this!
It's quite easy actually, all you have to do is the following:
- Open descr_model_battle.txt.
- Ctrl F celt_general.
- Change the following line;
;texture spain, data/models_unit/textures/officer_celt_general_spain.tga
..to;
texture spain, data/models_unit/textures/OFFICER_BARB_GENERAL_SPAIN.TGA
Anyways about the "Elite" and "Superior". As far as I know those are merely cosmetic and not tied to any stats. You could easily change them to whatever you want them to be. All those troop "attributes" that are added in the unit descriptions in the export_units.txt are cosmetic and could be deleted if you wanted to, although some might reoccur such as "Can form Phalanx" as I think that one is tied to the phalanx stat, although even then it doesn't serve any other purpose then a cosmetical one I think.

What "Elite" and "Superior" are you talking about? I don't recall seeing such tags anywhere.
