This is my first time playing the long campaign. Brutii h/h. Senate outlaws me 230BC. My popularity with the Senate and the people is about in the middle. I have 15 provinces and tons of money ( over 400,000 dn).Immediately after I take the 16th provence I am declared an outlaw. From things I've read in the guides and forums you have to fall out of favor with the Senate first before being declared an outlaw. Seemed rather sudden. Is this unusual? Does too much denari scare them?

It's because the evil Emperor changed his starting money in the desc_strat files. He just put in something like 99999999999 so then the game starts off at it's maximum amount of money, DN1.4 billion.

Argh Umei, do you have to say that in every topic?

Anyway, civil war is triggered whenever the Senate sees a serious threat in you. It isn't very common; usually the Senate will first start giving impossible missions like having your faction leader assasinated, forcing the player to attack. 400k denarii is not a very probable reason, more likely it is that you haven't been pleasing the Senate enough, while getting a load of provinces.

With the patch you can now get outlawed via spies and asassins. I think you are ok to spy on field armies with no retribution, but watchout if your spy gets caught going to town. Someone stated they got outlawed because there spy failed to infiltrate the town so he got caught in the act.
