I know most of you prolly already know, but for those of you who don't, there will be an Age of Empires lll! It will supposedly pick up from where Age of Kings left off, with European Countries colonising the new world and stuff like that. There are only 6 screenshots on the official website, but they look amazing!! Here is the link to the site: AoE3 (http://www.ensemblestudios.com/teaser.htm)

You can also download the official AoE3 theme tune from there. Sounds just like the original, only much better, as it is played by an orchestra.

I never played AoM, so i wouldn't know. Hopefully, it should be good, judging from the screenshots they have.

Short answer: The Game won't feature Prussia nor Austria, so why should I want it?

For having English "Redcoats" beeing the best Unit in the World?

I say if there is no Russia, no Austria and no Prussia in the Game it isn't worth to play it. Take 'Cossacks - European Wars' instead.

British redcoats, please-we don't want to anger the Scots and Irishmen on the board.

And they were, you know...~;)

Yeah, I don't think that can be denied.

After getting engaged with the Total War style I lost my ability of enjoying the AOE way. AOK was not impressive at all and just recently I installed EE with its expansion AOC, only to uninstall half an hour later.

Cossacks 2 might be promising only if some good mods are made, because -at least regarding the eastern graphics- it's as historically accurate as a holywood Arabian Knights movie.

EE with its expansion AOC

*shivers* Eur....i have a great dislike of that game. I used to like it, but now, i look at it and think 'that is sooo boring' All it consists of are small skirmishes every now and then.

I don't think there will be, because this version of AoE is centered around the main colonising European Powers.

Looks excellent and quite different to the usual AOE games, which I'm glad about because they were beginning to tire me with the same old format.

From what I read of the preview ,it sounds pretty much the same as all the others ,only better graphics .
If so ,then it may flop .Times have changed.

Well damnit. I was hoping they would do another medieval game. They should have at least steered clear of the 3-rounds-a-minute bore that is the 17th and 18th centuries. IMO this is the one time setting that real-time strategy game developers should steer clear of.

The site says sometime in the second half of this year.

And they were, you know...

Not comparable to Prussian Musketeers, Jagers or Schutzen. They rocked against Colonial Enemies, but had trouble in Europe.

However, the Game is incomplete if it just covers Exploration and Colonialism. It should continue where Age of Kings ended, having an 30 Years War Campaign for Austria as a playable Faction (Battles agianst most Factions in the Game). I would also love a "Rise of the Tzars" Campaign where you Battle the Ottomans, Mongols and Polish.

After the TW series I can't play normal strategy games anymore. Base-building and resource mangement aside, they just don't feel epic.

Oh, look! My 14 swordsmen/infantrymen/elves are whittiling down those 8 orcs/zombies/mecha! Now all I have to do is watch my guys wack a building until it catches fire and collapses.

There are no battle tactics, no morale, no flanking. Nothing. Its all a mad rush to see who could build up the better base/churn out the units faster. AFter that its victory by numbers.

Hopefully B&W won't be a disappointment.

But this is the whole point. It is centred (sp?) on the main colonising powers of the Americas. Hence no Austria or Prussia. Austria and Prussia did not found any colonies at all in America, and hence were not involved so heavily in colonisation, so why include them?

Yeah the egyptian faction in cossacks 2 doesn't look too interesting. Stupid stereotypes, even though the game is all about historical accuracy.

However if it is centered only on colonisation of America, while the first two parts had Campaigns on the whole world, it's not really Age of Empires 3. The other national histories must be continued aswell, otherwise it makes no homogenus image with part 1 and 2.

Well, I do suppose you COULD include the Holy Roman Empire in AoE III, like they did in American Conquest: Fight Back. You know, that whole El Dorado fiasco, where the Fuggers got funds from Charles V and tried to found a colony in Venezuela. Would that tickle your fancy? ~;)

Nope, they should have 7 special Factions to be more realistic:

Three European:

Holy Roman Empire (*)
Scandinavia (Sweden? )
Tzardom of Russia

And four special Colonial Foes:

Manchurians (China + Mongols + Korea)
Japanese
India
Ottoman Empire

* Displaying all german States + Hungary in one chared Faction.
- Having Prussian Musketeers, Landsknecht and Austrohungarian Hussars as exectional Units
- Cheaper to build Monks and research Military techs

However there should be a 30 Years War Campaign, to have some of the action in Europe beeing in. However could also be fusioned with the Spanish Campaign (Charles V and later) so that you have some Battles in Europe and HrE as allies or even controling HrE itslef...

The other Factions will be great for Multiplay.
