Rise and Fall, by Stainless Steel, [Gamespot Preview Here] (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/risefallcivilizationsatwar/preview_6118820.html), seems to have the Total War control system without the historical emphasis (just check out the Roman with the hammer on the second page !). Lighting and textures seem to be far superior to Rome Total War, but RTW developement was started quite a few years ago.

It also seems to have elements of Soldiers: Heroes of WWII in it, where you could take direct control of charatcter - for example use your general to shoot with the bow enemies like in an action game. Of course, I have to wonder whether this makes your general a Hollywood action hero, single-handedly turning the tide or whether this will just make him shoot endless waves of soldiers while his (or her; Cleopetra is on the battlefield on this game!) army falls apart. Of course, it may or may not have a moral system...

Love or hate this game? It's easy to do both.

If its better then RTW then Ill play it because right now RTW is in my CD case of crappy games.

Theres a reason to buy it. Checkout the second page of pics, Cleopatra bowmen.

The siege towers did'nt look appealing IMO. Otherwise it did'nt look too bad plus I noticed you can make an arc with phalanx units. Also possibly naval battles are allowed.

Looks good, but can it compete with somebody who has been making this for years? Somehow I still have my trust on CA's Total War.

It's about time CA was given some competition.

Plus, it doesn't look that bad:

I"m very interested in those little blood spurts and the ships ramming into eachother. ~

ps - naval sieges actually working? :dizzy2:

Wow! That looks awesome!

It definitely seems to be the naval battles that would give this an edge for R:TW ... but that Cleopatra looks kinda cheesy, and the 'Germanicus Caesar' (???) looks horrible.

Looks better than this piece of sh!! that CA gave us. I spent $50 dollars on this piece of junk that Took me 2 days to figure out a way to install it on my system, no the regular install did not work. I got maybe 5 hours of enjoyment with the game. With $50, I could have got something that "sucked" better than this game. ~D

Back to STW and MTW, games with a pulse...

either those pics are photoshopped or I'll experience horrible lag with 30 people on the battlefield.

Just so the newer members are aware: we have a forum here called The Arena, where we 'cuss-and-discuss' other games. This link will take you to a similar discussion from a week ago:

Sounds like Rise and Fall is worth a look. Plenty of promise - but let's see how they implement.
