View Full Version : Carthage is deadly
I can't say the same when I play as any other faction besides carthage, since they seem to just sit around and occasionally attack me with a navy, but as them... WOW.
Im playing on h/h and I focused on Sicily. I attacked the roman captain to the north of the volcano, and of course instead of running back to his city he decided to fight. With clever use of my elephants I was able to rout and wipe out that army. I did the same with the rest of Sicily. From there I built my navy and launched an assault on italy. I blockaded every port with atleast 3 ships and, with use of multiple elephant charges, was able to conquer roman city after roman city. Within twenty years I completely destroyed rome! This is an accomplishment for me and it got me thinking that this game could be immensesly harder if the AI played as aggressive as the players do in the campaign, then the game would be alot more difficult (obviously) and would last longer...
I myself usually grow tired of a single campaign before I reach 50 provinces but this is because I grow tired of having to manage all the provinces. In the beginning of the game I can focus each town on specific things and it feels rather personal, but towards the end its just too much to manage them all to your content with that same sense of focus.
I hope that was clear enough

Micromanaging provinces is a major flaw in the game, players are forced to take care of EVERYTHING personally including minor battles because the AI is stupid or because things decline rapidly unless you constantly maintain them.
I mean I dont mind personally taking command in important battles actually id much rather i be in control, but im forced to personally command almost every single battle because i know if i leave the AI to take care of it itll mess it up.
The AI should cut you some slack on the homefront sometimes, im tired of no matter what I build squalor rising, unrest coming out of nowhere and money not being made despite massive trade, farming, taxes etc.
There are reasons why these things happen but spending about 20 minutes some turns, touring your entire empire to fix annoying little things when you have better thigns to do is deeply irritating, its ok for the AI because it doesnt have a patience limit and can amend things instantly, but humans get bored, and once my empire gets so big i get bored because it just takes to much effort. Deeply annoying.

Playing as Carthage is alot of fun and they are formidable, but no matter what tweaks I make to descr_strat they always suck with the AI.

Reading some guides might help you with that, you know.

I would put it up at http://www.twcenter.net/forums/index.php?act=SC&c=5

Aetius, you might have a better time playing the short campaigns then. Taking 15 provinces might fit your attention span better.
