I am playing as a green clan in history mode. I can barely beat the Macedonian phalanx.

I easily get beaten when I fight with my ordinary units or with mercenaries without inflicting much damage.

Is there an easy way to beat the phalanx? (I am reinforcing my army from across the sea because of that). I sent my infantry to a frontal attack and my cavalry to the flank. Unfortunately, I lost my infantry in the process.

Please tell me an easy way to beat the phalanx. I love my warriors. ~:mecry:

As Romans? They are a piece of cake especially with Romans. Use skirmishers first:

- Use pila (put your units hastati/principes on fire-at-will).
- Use Velites (disable skirmish mode so they won't move around; fire-at-will off; put on hold)
- Use Archers. (put on hold, fire-at-will off).

If you want to melee, hit them in the backside first (they will reorient and reform). Now before they can completely do that, hit them again (preferably) with cavalry. And off they rout.

One thing you DON'T want is a frontal fight, you will lose. Soften them up with skirmishers and do the backside flank. In their special formation, they are very slow, that's when you use the skirmishers.

Every time they try to catch you, just try to move back (and keep shooting). :charge:

As anyone all you need to do is give the phalanx a charge and then kick it in the but. As he said off they run. If you have phalanxes you can put a phalanx in front to avoid sacrificing too many infantry men and then charge with cav, they reorient and you have your phalanx leave formation and charge. Works just as well.

Just charge cavalry at the phalanx frontally. It works wonders in the tests I've run. CA really screwed this one up.

Also barbarians and Hellenistic civilisations are nice. Their perfect for 'heroic victories'. Phalanx is easy. Shoot it down, preferably with a combination of archers, slingers and javelin throwers. Then when there close to you: charge in the rear! They will turn the spears and then there's another rear.

Conclusion, shooting them down and surrounding them WILL make them rout. :smash:

To Atreides, and every other one who will want to ask this question:

You cannot, I repeat, cannot use the edit function UNTIL you are a member. Pointing out that you are at the moment of writing, a junior member, makes clear that you cannot use the edit function YET.
