A bit of a n00b question here :( BUT

How do I increase the loyalty of my generals as a whole?

I know u can give them titles, but there is not enough to go around.

I find this problem everytime I play: I get the "significant number of disloyal generals message" and it always ends up in civil war at the worst time possible.

Become an active builder and the king will get some builder traits that boost general loyalty. Also you kings influence has a lot to do with loyalty. Try to produce a crusade and/or fight an easy enemy. Get some wins under your belt and the influence should go up with the generals loyalty. MTW does a good job representing that back in that time generals were loyal to power.

In addition to ColdKnights advice, if your playing a catholic of orthodox faction you can marry your princesses to your generals that will up thier loyalty.

Also, I remember reading somewhere that if you keep a disloyal generals unit in the same army as your king is loyalty will go up faster. I cant confirm this, hopefully someone more expirenced and knowledgable then I can.

Looking back on my first campaign, about midway through now with Italians, I just realized that I do not do much fighting with my king's unit. Is that bad? Should I throw him into some easy clashes? Is the only thing I miss out on adding command stars or does it go deeper than that? I like to keep my king in the middle, usually Venice or Tuscany since my kingdom is expanding and am afraid to move him to the front lines.

I try to use my ruler everynow and again in battle. Maybe an important one, but that's just me and roleplaying, lead from the front and all that ~D . Mostly I will keep him in a coastal province to keep him connected to most of my provinces. =D Also I will move him to where a disloyal general is, I don't think they turn rebel if in the same province as the ruler. Maybe it increases their loyalty too after a while. :dizzy2:

A nice trick is to keep disloyal high rankers in stack to themselves. that way if they rebel its just them and not a whole stack. Even if its a 0 command in charge of the stack as long as he is loyal it doesn't make a difference. When you enter the battle screen the disloyal general will take charge and use his command stars. That way you get the best of both worlds. Break out the cheese. . . :embarassed:

Apart from everything that has already been said, there are a few more things.
One: engage your Royals once in a while lest they get the lazy vices and start producing no-good off-spring and provoking disloyalty, civil war and/or peasant revolts in your own cosy backyard.
Two: you only need to keep your King somewhere in the middle by the time you have acquired a sizeable empire; that's when his location starts to have an impact, not beforehand.
Enjoy! :charge:

Thanks for the reply guys. I am playing as the turks if this helps.

I must admit that moving the king is not really a good option to me as the population starts to be disloyal and taxes fall which puts me in massive debt.

Unit loyalty
- build units in lands with lots of morale/loyalty buildings and high loyalty.
- titles
- win a few battles (doesn't have to be with your king)
- disband (or send to their glorious deaths) low loyalty units
- marry your princesses to your unit leaders

Of these, the best is win a few battles, the easiest is disbanding units.

As the Turks, as with other Muslim factions, your best and easiest route to a high Influence ruler and thus uber-loyal generals is Jihad. Build Jihad markers and launch a whole bunch at once against a province you've lost. If you start in a high zeal province you'll get some top quality troops and when you win, for each Jihad in the bunch your ruler will gain +1 Influence!

Build a whole crop of them - two years and 500 fl a pop, bargain! - and keep them by for when your ruler dies. Then launch multiple Jihads and Bingo! instant super-ruler, instant loyalty.

Bit too easy to abuse, but hey ~;)
