Will there ever be a verion of total war where the calvary samurai have guns? I know that eventually they used them o horses.

Hey isn't this the same Brown Wolf that swore off of STW and this forum since (you allege) the game glorified killing Christians and (again you allege) this .Org supports such a product?

Soly hopefully the .org and the .com both suport the product. It's a slightly strange fansite otherwise. As to to Crucifixion...

I think you're the same Brown wolf, but you've been making some good posts, an it's all ancient history, so let bygones http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Yes, and to get back the topic....

As far as I know, there are no plans to included mounted gun units. It hasn't been mentioned as a possibility for the Mongol Invasion expansion pack. It is therefore highly unlikely that there will be a version which includes cavalry gun units.

So i overeacted. Big deal, anyway eventually maybe there should be mounted gun samurai. What are your opinoins on this?

I don't know.I don't think that Samurai Dragoons were that common ,at the point in time Shogun takes place in.
Maybe you could find out more ,on the history board.

I think cav wit guns would be cool and screw the historical aspect. Just kidding. The historical aspect of Shogun is one which keeps it so different from other games.

yes, sorry for my digression...back to topic:
my sense is that guns on horses would be a bit unwieldy; gunner units are slow to set up, while cav arches are notorious for taking their sweet time reforming - combinations that would cause the novelty of such a unit to wear off quickly.

I think it would be hilarious to watch some samurai try to reprime and reload a matchlock on horseback.

"Hey, you guys, wait for me!" (stuff stuff). "I'll be right there!" (prime, prime). "Ouch, I dropped my wick on my lap!!!" (blow, blow) "hey, horse, can you hold this ramrod for me?"

Mounted musketeers in Europe (dragoons) usually fought on foot rather than firing from horseback. The horses were for transport: they were mobile infantry more than anything else. Unfortunately a dragoon unit normally lacked the firepower of the larger infantry formations and the speed and training of the cavalry. They had their uses, but too many generals used them as regular cavalry or infantry (usually as stop-gaps) in roles they could not fulfill. I suspect mounted samurai gunners would have to do the same if there was any reason to include them.

I think we should postpone discussion of samurai musketeers a cheval until after the grenade tossing ninja cavalry is introduced...

Real funny Nelson. But serioulsy I thought that some samurai used mounted guns? But maybe that was later in history?

When considering soldier types for STW, we should consider entire units (the super swordsman in the Mongol edition notwithstanding), not anecdotal examples.

Possibly there were samurai who rode and wielded firearms. I doubt their existence, but I am certain there were no significant military units composed of them.

I haven't seen much evidence for samurai using firearms at all. "Not very bushidô to my way of thinking," I've often heard self-respecting samurai say, "Let the ashigaru blow on matches and stuff barrels! I won't lower myself to those loathsome noisemakers."

There you have it, a direct quote.
