I don't want this to be political or become a flame war, but I'm sure we can all agree and offer prayers to the Pope in his hour of need. I'm not Catholic and I don't agree with many of their beliefs (being a Baptist) but the Pope has preached peace and kindness to one another and we can all respect that, so plaese take a moment of your time to pray for him, and if don't believe in prayer, please offer positive thoughts to a very decent man. Thank you, God bless, or whatever you believe... ~:)

Being as this is one of the better popes this world has had, my prayers are with him at this moment.

When I used to pray, it was for everyone, and especially those in need. It was a conscious decision of mine never to pray selfishly, or to "play favorites" with my prayers. After all, who am I to judge whether someone deserves the grace of God, or not? I made it a habit to pray for the good of all. That way, everyone stands to benefit--Pope included. I do hope the man recovers quickly and completely from his illness.

honestly, i say this with no ill will, but let the man die already. i think he's ready for oblivion or heaven or whatever comes next.

May he return to good health, however there are some things upon which I ponder.
1. Can the Pope resign?
2. A If he can, why hasen't he?
2. B If he can't, why?
3. Who are the likely candidates for succesion?

Just to make it clear, this is a good wishes thread. If anybody has an issue with the Catholic Church or the Pope, start a thread in the backroom
May his holiness get well soon. ~D

I agree, no need to be ungracious to a dying man whose decency far outweights his faults.

1-Yes he can.
Why hasn´t he?....well...i think it´s pretty clear for everyone that the poor man doesn´t exactly call the shots anymore now isn´t it?....the people that are making the decisions are gonna lose that power if a new pope is chosen...so why should they shorten their ride on top?...think about it
3-there is a council....and everyone in that council can vote and be elected pope....last week i heard the top runners are an italian and a german.
hope he get´s better anyway....and if he doesn´t may he at least have a confortable existance for the time he has left.

Ok, thanks.
Well, may God have mercy on his soul?
That's not inflammatory is it, he has mercy on all our souls right?

Actually, only once has a pope retired, and that was about 700 years ago. So, no, they don't really retire. The position is for life.
