It's a patch for 5.2, so you'll need:

RTW + 1.2 + RTR5.2 + RTR5.3.

Also, BACK UP YOUR DATA FOLDER prior to installing if you ever want to uninstall RTR or play the Imperial Campaign.

i dled it, but it was "corrupt", seems to be alot of installer bugs or something according to twc ;/.

This MOD already needs a patch. Everyone is reporting CTD errors. Some things with RTR never seem to change.

Never had one single CTD with RTR

Before the third turn CTD, I noticed that this is a unified Rome Mod (just one Roman faction not 3) and that the Roman generals aren't mounted but are triari (?!). Not sure what to think of these changes...

They havent been mounted for at least 2 versions. They were triarii in 5.1 and before that they were preatorian guard (alot of problems with that)

Excellent can't wait to play !

Downloaded it a couple of hours back, and not had one single problem so far (quickly searches round for something made of wood to knock on). Very good work by the team. ~

you need to install 1.1 before 1.2 or just 1.2 and then the 5.2 ??

Stuie
02-27-2005, 23:10
You just need RTW + 1.2 + RTR5.2. Nothing else.

Well, almost nothing else. Until the 5.3 patch comes out, you need to make sure you have the lastest DivX codec, and there are a few "hotfixes" at twcenter.

See this thread for DivX info:
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=22872

See this thread for the hotfixes:
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=22878

However, the 5.3 patch should be out in a day or two, incorporating the above fixes and eliminating the DivX codec necessity.

You can forget about the hot fixes addressing the crash bugs in 5.2. I spent over an hour reinstalling RTW, the MOD, then the hot fixes and yes the codec. I got an immediate CTD.

How the Mod developers can release such a buggy Mod without even testing it to see if it runs is beyond me. I am really disappointed.

This is all moot to me.

I'm having the same "Corrupt File" problem as C.T. (above). It installs practically the whole damn thing except for the last two Files!
Haven't been able to download an RTR update since 4.0. What's particularly aggravating is that it suggests that I "Please try downloading again" which with a 56K modem takes about 3 hours and change. Saw others post this problem on the TWC site but I saw no replys.

Anyone have any ideas?? Playing SP without RTR borders on being not worth it imho...from what I've read I think I'll wait for 5.3 though Lol...if I can download the #@%$^*# thing!! (pardon the language...must be the Hairy Gaul in me).

i forgot to thank you for the very good mod (rtr as a project)
if the 5.3 is very near and the installation is simpler i prefer to wait
are you sure that the roman generals were without cavalry ?

Thanks for the thanks. I appreciate it. And yes, 5.3 is near. I just sent my changes to Deimos - he's packaging this one (thank Jupiter).

As for the Roman Generals, they certainly were not a heavy cavalry unit capable of changing the tide of a battle with a sudden charge. The debates been hashed and rehashed on the twcenter forums. You might want to check there and see if you want to contribute to the debate.

How the Mod developers can release such a buggy Mod without even testing it to see if it runs is beyond me.A public beta is a far better solution, because the number of man-hours it would take to test the mod thoroughly would be a complete waste of the RTR team's time, time that they could spend on improving the mod in other aspects. It's fair to say that new releases should be clearly labeled as beta, though—RTR would have no problems getting playtesters for a clearly marked beta, and it would cut down on complaints. I remember the same complaining about 4.1. What do you think, Stuie?

Has the 5.2 mod been able to address the AI abandons siege problem?

Nope. Nobody's come up with a solution yet. Someone might think up a workaround in time, but nobody has so far.

how you deside how to number a mod ?
why 5.2 but not 6 ?
why 6 but not 5.4 ?

Is there a review for RTR that describes what RTR is all about ( include latest mod versions)? I would like to know what changes have been made via this mode to RTW. I realize that this is alot of info, but I do not want to play the same game with diff colors. The only color change I am looking for is for the Greek Cities...to blue maybe. I have read alot of great things, but every ones tast is diff.

Finally, how hard is it to install. I am not looking for a mod that requires manually copying or converting..or... Just a quick install....is that possible or am I dreaming?

Thank everybody for your kind help

My understanding of this, is that each full version number ie 5.0 or 6.0 is a complete overhaul, whereas intermediate releases i.e. 5.1 or 5.2 are just improvements and/or fixes for the last release. Of course, I may be wrong.

First of all, welcome, as I see this is your first post here. ~:)

Next, I don't think there is a proper review anywhere, or a complete list of all changes, but check out their site, the link is in Stuies first post in this thread.
Also here is a link to their changelog, which details a lot of the changes http://www.rometotalrealism.com/changelog

Also have a look around their Forum over at the twcentre http://www.twcenter.net/forums/index.php?showforum=53

You will find a lot of your questions answered, between these sites.

As for installing, the download comes with it's own installer, so it's just a matter of clicking on it, then following the instructions. If you are going to install it into a copy of your RTW folder, so that you can continue with vanilla RTW as well, then you will have to choose the destination folder yourself, which just requires clicking on browse and working your way through to the location your copy is in, then highlight that, click ok, then install.

Uhm, does it seem reasonable for a Carthagian phalanx line to reliably beat a Macedonian one?

Cos they do which seems odd to me.

Carthage unit stats have much higher defence than Macedonians.

Side issue: Shouldn't the Carthagian unit names be more like the Ptolemaic setup ie 'Greek/Libyan/Balearic mercenaries' etc?

Lovely stuff though :)
