View Full Version : RTW on TV
last saturday from 6 to 7 in the evening there was some documentary on discovery channel. It was about a historical fight between Rome and alexander the great, played by two historicans with the help of a computer.
they used the computer to play the game, and i noticed that the program they used looked a bit like TW, and i got the impression that it might have been RTW.
the morale dropped when the general died, units were in diffenrent formations, attacking from behind was very effective and more stuff like that, looks like TW, doesn't it??
~ first post in RTW forum! ~

Yes, it was definately the RTW engine used. Pretty fun program as well! It were two generals who "played" as Alexander and Hannibal BTW. An English and an American general who both served in the Gulf war.
Edit: It's called "Clash of Generals" IIRC Hope they'll do some more as well! ~:)

I first wasn't sure that anyone else had seen it, cause i live in holland (de beste! ~;) ) and i thought they maybe had another program in other countries.
Rome looked very nice, i only play STW, but i getting more and more intrested in RTW.
It was a very nice program, i love this kind of TV programs, but don't see them often. Please tell me if you no of any other. ~;)
Hannibal won, didn't he? ~
I heard a rumor while ago that discovery chanel (or maybe a history chanel), got impressed with RTW engine and both its rights to be used in their simulations.

yes i saw it a month ago on Dicovery Channel, Alexander VS Hannibal and also Alexander VS (i thought a Roman General) they used the engine but those units were just huge and not on huge settings in one unit there were more than 300 men in it.
. . . but those units were just huge and not on huge settings in one unit there were more than 300 men in it.
you mean they adjusted the RTW battle a bit? ~

yes, that's why i think if you can find the right place, you can change the settings so the max unit can be like 480 men as the real roman cohorts.
If you're interested, every sunday night on BBC2 there is a program called Time Commanders that uses the RTW engine as well (u should be able to watch that in Holland). It's not as good as Clash of the Generals tho.

Nope, the cap is around 250. Try it.
I heard that with 1.2 they changed the max to around 500 or so. But that was totally unsubstaniated though.
I thought that too, but then someone told me it was the total number of units that had been increased, not the number of men in a unit.
Do Time Commanders and Clash of the Generals air in the US?
