View Full Version : Help-Reinstalling Patch 1.2
Hi everyone,
I modded quite a bit and ended up getting CTD's whenever I open up a character trait panel or the recruitment panel. This got really annoying so I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. For some reason, when I try to run the 1.2 patch to patch it to 1.2, it refuses to install and insists that it's already installed.
1.1 patches fine but 1.2 refuses to install now. The pri/sec bug and other fixes make 1.2 vastly better so I would like to get back to 1.2. Anyone know which files 1.2 changes when it installs so that I patch this reinstalled version?
Thanks a lot in advance.

I'm sure that with over 50mb of material, many many files would be involved. Didn't you back up files before modifying them? That's the first rule for programmer wannabes: BACK BEFORE YOU HACK!!! Also, you may have compatibility problems if you installed mods like RTR. Make sure you have all that stuff removed properly.

modding isn't the problem. it's just something CA did to the patch. don't ask me why. there's a thread about this in the apothecary, you might want to check it out. there is a solution, although it is a rather complicated one.
let this be a warning to everyone: once you patched rome, never, ever, uninstall it. it really is a pain in the ass to reinstall it and get it running again. i've been busy for at least three hours and i still haven't managed to get rome running again.
At a guess, I'd say patch 1.2 probably creates a registry entry (or more), those don't get removed with the uninstall of the game, so when you go to reapply, the patch engine reads them and thinks it's already there.
And why should that prevent a person from reinstalling? I can't install RTW v1.0 to checkout the siege/savegame bug because the install won't let me.

if you can't reinstall the game, you could try a system restore. see the things to do before installing rtw thread for more specific info.
Thanks for the info and I will check out the apothecary.
Just to let you know, I'm not just some programmer wannabe. I've been programming for a very long time and been modding a while too. Just didn't have a complete backup due to lack of disc space and incremental roll backs weren't sufficient.
I already checked the registry and found nothing. I even used a file monitoring program but it mostly accesses files in the Document and Settings/username/Local Settings folder and there wasn't much there.
It truly is a pain and I'll post back about my progress.
