Hey all you history buffs and forum lurkers:

This is somewhat of an experimental topic. Lastly I developed an interest in WWI and started searching for some background info. The problem I ran into is the random distribution of information all over the place with no order to it, so if you want to find info about Austria, it is in one place, with economy in a different place and different years than what you could find for military development, etc.

So: I propose to make this place a centralized information collection sorted by years and countries to be able to follow the development of the war simultaneously in all the countries envolved.

My proposition is:

period 1: pre 1910. Everything together.
period 2: 1910-1914. The pre-war effort.
1914: first year.
1915
1916
1917
1918: last year

If this works out, I might extend the period all the way to WWII through the Russian revolution and civil war and the Spanish civil war in 1936-1939.

My request: please, try to find information as unbiased as possible (I will try to restrain my innate sarcastic jokes and comments too ~;) ), this is not about who won or who lost, but give its due credit to everyone. Basically to know what happened.

Start your posts with the YEAR and the COUNTRY you are talking about. If you are tackling more than one, specify clearly when you talk about one or another, and I will try to keep this organized and edit this first post with chronologically organized info.

I am also thinking about opening another thread for the WWI leaders to have them all in one place and not disrupt the flow of history in this thread by telling their biographies, but I want to see how this works out first.

In short, this is a very ambitious project, and I hope it will catch your interest.

Of course, If anyone has suggestions about the layout or the organization of this thread, please feel free to comment.

Regards

SM

EDIT: I opened a new thread with the leaders of WWI too.
