View Full Version : Mistake Made
Have a small problem,
I got to the stage where i was told my faction leader must commit suicide, obviously i said no, BIG mistake that started the civil long before i was prepared and i am getting hammered mainly due to lack of funds and my army being spread across my empire.
Any tips on how to overcome this, would hate to start from scratch.
I would say: enjoy. The situation like this one should be what's best in the game.
Other than that, too little info to give concrete tips. ~:)
I have been looking forward to this part of the game problem is i am broke have less than 10000 in the bank and this is dwindling, if i lose a major battle i cannot afford to raise more troops.
I guess what i need is a quick and cheap way to raise decent troops, without having my cities riot
Are you pre-Marius or post? Where are your troops, which family are you playing, where are the enemies and their main forces, is anybody else harassing your borders, what level are you playing on, how experienced are you as a player?
Stall for time. Use boats to interfere with the enemy transporting troops by sea. Use diplomats to secure peace treaties with your other neighbors, and sell maps to raise money. Don't use field troops for garrison duty; use peasants and town watch, to save money. Let the enemy siege your towns, if you have to. It will tie up an army for several turns. If you can catch the enemy broken up, destroy them piecemeal. Try and encourage their neighbors to attack them. If worse comes to worse, destroy every building you can in a threatened town, and pull out of it before they can get to it to take it. You can even gift or sell it to another faction after you've done so. If it revolts, it'll come back to you or turn rebel, with a big rebel army in it that will delay your foes.
You need to pull back from your fronts and concentrate on your core cities.
Also concentrate on a single fighting army. Make sure the enemy can only attack once per turn or your army can disintegrate quickly. If the enemy are swarming, make sure you have reinforcements in the next tile just in case they attack multiple times per turn. The best defensive posture is staying on a bridge (just put your army in the middle of the bridge). Any chokepoint will be nice too.
After battles, reinforce your army with whatever you got. If you defend bridges correctly, you can destroy all his units while you only lose a hundred or so.
Also, you need to trade more. Secure trade rights with your diplomats. Why do you only have 10,000 denari? Do you exterminate cities and don't build ports, roads, farms etc at all?
It would be nice if you can post a screenshot of your current Map. :charge:

Use mercs and lay ambushes near roads.

Make peace with your non-civil-war neighbors, form alliances wherever possible, encourage your allies to attack your enemies, and maybe even give away a rebellious/nonproductive province or two to sweeten the deals. Concentrate your field armies (even town watchmen can be useful in a pinch if you have superiority in cavalry and a good general to keep them from breaking), trade space for time, hit your enemies hard, and keep moving, always moving. Above all ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK, BANZAI!!!!! This kind of impossible scenario is what makes RTW so much FUN (even with the bugs)!!!
