Is it just my imagination or do the ninjas given to Imagawa in the campaign game have a better than average success rate of killing the Uesugi daimyo? Most of the time when I'm playing the campaign, a ninja kills off the Uesugi daimyo, and then the two times I've played Imagawa, and made a punitive effort to off the Uesugi daimyo, it seems to work! Even when the given chance of success was only 7%. Has anybody else seen this happen? Is there some sort of real history behind this to explain it? (I'm not aware of any, but then I could have easily overlooked it.)

Well, according to some tales, Uesugi Kenshin was supposed to have met his demise from a ninja attack while attending to personal bodily functions. As far as I'm aware of, that's the extent of any historical 'legitimacy'...and I'm not even sure if the legends of such even hint at who the assassin was working for.

Perhaps this obscure bit of legend, mixed with Imagawa's ninja bonus is the culprit?. (I'm assuming, though, that you're killing off the daimyo long before Kenshin makes his appearance).

I have noticed that sometimes ninja are much more luckier...consistently so, but I haven't been able to place the reasons behind it. Try saving before a turn where the only major event is a ninja assassination. Despite perhaps having a 33% chance of succeeding, sometimes a ninja will seem to fail no matter how many times you've reloaded (I abhor reloading normally, except for tests like this). The same holds true for successes, no matter how pitiful the percentage. Now, granted, the results aren't accumulative, so in the first example, the ninja has a one in three EVERY time as if it's a clean slate, but after about 10 reloads, one would think he could be successful (or, what's more amazing is the ninja who succeeds 10 timss in a row when his chance is 10% or less). I've wondered if there isn't some other little bit of number crunching that isn't readily displayed to us when it calculates the difficulty.

Solypsist-san,I have noticed this inexplicable Imagawa ninja success also and not just against the Useugi Daimyo!I have also had success offing the Takeda and Hojo Daimyos early in the game before there are borderforts with the Imagawa ninjas.Works great if you can make an alliance with them first! The success rates were low, under 10%.I have tried this tactic with other clans, but never had any luck.I don't know if it was because I couldn't get any ninja in the field
as early as Imagawa, but your's and Ii Naomasa-san's observation may be correct.Maybe it is a historical advantage built into the game, like Sun Tzu's principles
of war.Playing Imagawa on expert he needs all
the help he can get. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Imagawa also has annoying success killing off the first Oda heir when he arrives.
I haven't noticed that Imagawa has inordinate success early against Daimyo but he always nails my emissary quickly (as Oda,Uesugi,Hojo).
Ah, you folks are playing AS Imagawa! Ping! A light goes on!...hehe

If you play the campaign and use the .matteosartori. code to view the map in it's entirety, you'll notice just how effective those Imagawa ninjas are in seeking your own emissary out for destruction.
I seem to have noticed the whole daimyo-has-been-assassinated thing seems to happen more often on the more difficult levels of play, leading me to believe that using agents becomes more integral to gameplay than on Easy (but I'm just thinking out loud here, I can't really be sure.)

A friend of mine was playing a Uesugi campaign over the holidays. A ninja killed his daimyo and then the new daimyo within a season or two - game over. This was relatively early in the game too.

Well I never really had any of this problem. I've been playing as Uesugi and I've never encountered any problem with assassination attempts on my Daimyo. This might be because I always leave my Daimyo in Mutsu's castle. Another thing would be because I'm an avid user of the ninja. I've been able to utilize the ninja to take out Allied Daimyos to gain provinces without fighting. I've even been able to reach an honour 9 level for one ninja before he was captured by enemy security forces. (I guess they have an honour 9 shinobi duking it out with my ninja) Mind you, this was done in NORMAL level and i was able to eliminate HOJO, IMAGAWA, MORI and SHIMAZU. ODA died of illness with no heir. The only one left would be TAKEDA.

NINJA RULES !!!
