With some of the issues with RTW still being ironed out, I recently started playing Baroccas STW mod for MTW again. While it took me a few battles to get used to the old controls and the old faithful sprites, I did enjoy it.

The battles lasted long enough that you could actually sit and watch what was happening and even give orders that may influence its outcome!

So on the wholeo while it was really hard to compare the old sprites to the new graphics of RTW on the pros side the battle are much more enjoyable both from a having time to watch the battle develop and sitting back enjoy the action while its taking place. I have to admit theres something to be said for sitting back drinking a beer watching your monks holding off a No dachi attack. I realise now what a click fest and how stressfully fast the RTW battle really are.

If you spend 10 minutes setting up your line the last thing you want is the actual fighting to be over in 60seconds - from a game play and enjoyability perspective

what are you playing now and how does it stack up?

Well I have just (today) gone back to Medieval, completely unsatisfied with Rome, I lose interest far too quickly, even with the RTR mod. I will be looking at a mod for Medieval soon, probably XL or the Shogun mod.

Colovion, I too am waiting for EB, it is my last hope for Rome in the Roman Period, otherwise I will look to Sengoku Jidai or Citadel. I still love Medieval, that atmosphere is great ~D

Just so much...heavier than Rome, I love it! ~D

Gah, i really don't want to play RTR or any other man, and i can't stand RTW vanilla. Yet, i seemed to have lost my MTW cd, and i'm not really playing anything at the moment then.

Playing? Nah, modding. RTW. I have been making a Magna Graeca map, which will probably be done one or two months from now. See the associated mod at: Hellenic Wars (http://s9.invisionfree.com/Hellenic_Wars/). I have also gone back to Medieval recently, since VI is the best!

Playing NTW1 for the 1st time, just to remind myself what the M:TW engine feels like.

Hmmmmmmmmm..........I thought there were things I liked better in mtw, lol!

May join ColdKnight in HoI2 tho...while I wait for the modders to work-out with R:TW and for CA to do an expansion, eh?

GAH ! Between working on my thesis, debating in the backroom and keeping my girlfriend happy, I don't seem to find the time to play games anymore.

I just installed the 1.2patch though, so I might be able to play a little bit tonight !

RTW aint all that bad, i went back to MTW a week after buying it but after i got the patch and the online problems were fixed...it started owning, MTW just doesnt feel right anymore, theres too many features im used to having now that MTW lacks, i dont really care about graphics but the only thing MTW has on rome is more maps and a better online community(as of August)

Does anyone else here have difficulty completing a campaign in R:TW? It always seems like a great idea to start one, building my economy and so forth but after a while I just lose interest. Have now gone back to M:TW VI playing a campaign as the Welsh, but am eagerly awaiting the release of Imperial Glory.

i don't have difficulty completing the campaigns, you just have to keep it interesting, i've got loads of wars going on at the moment so there is usually two battles per turn..

Shogun for MTW VI Mod. While it has a few little blemishes, it's great for SP and MP.

and when nobody is online for STW mod then I just switch over to VI.

I almost quit entirely due to the fact that I just do not care for Rome at all, but after looking at several PC and PS2 titles I'm back to ordering Naginata around.

Not really playing anything.

From time to time I do a bit more on my mod and playing a few historic battles I have set up.

Did not ever really get into Rome, not my time period

May be differnt when a few of the mods are complete ie NTW and the Japanese one.

Until then I will continue with my FPS and other strat games....

MTW - VI, unmodded. I didn't buy RTW. Played the demo and wasn't impressed, although I'll probably buy it when the price goes down (OK, so I'm cheap). I've always loved MTW for the complexity of the campaigns, and the ability to play GA if "conquer the world" gets old.

I'm not a graphics nut, myself, and I've seen too many good games NOT improved by new editions which just pump up the graphic niceties but don't evolve in the game play aspects (sometimes, they even de-evolve, like Railroad Tycoon 3).

Oh yeah - I was playing Civ3 a lot before I found my MTW disk again ~D
