View Full Version : Help! I've run aground!

Hi there!

Sorry if this is a real newbie question, but I've run aground and don't know how to get myself back out to sea.

That is to say, playing the Brutii on M/M, long campaign, vanilla, I engaged a Julii navy with a large fleet of my own just off the coast of Iberia; having sunk the Julii navy, my own navy did that little 'hop' that it does, landing squarely in the mouth of that river just a little south of Osca, and has been unable to move ever since, for ever so many turns.

The ships are all still there; when I mouse over them, the little green circle appears; when I select them, they cry "Ready to sail!" or whatever, but no green travel zone appears; and when I right-click to send them somewhere - anywhere - they say "Can't do that, Captain" or words to that effect.

I've really missed my dozen or so quinquiremes (though now I've replaced them and sent those pesky Julii to Poseidon Jones' locker :thinking2: ). They're still costing me money (I can't disband them, of course); and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get them out of that river mouth.

Anyone had the same problem? Anyone got any ideas how to get them out again (either inside or outside the game, so to speak?).

Cheers!

Hi Aesculapius

Hmmm, strange problem you got there. Maybe you should try do get the army off your ships. This could alter the "state" your ships are in somehow. That meens of course, that you can't ship them until you got a port in that region and you own it. (if it works at all).

Good luck,
Blacknek

Ups, reading your post again, it seems your ships don't carry a arma. Litttle confused today :embarassed:

Maybe you should try this threat

Sounds really similar to your problem

Haven't encountered this bug before but heard of it. The only thing I can add is try clicking on the unit cards itself instead of the actual ships.

Is patch 1.2 installed?

Re-load a save that is un-bugged, do not let them get stuck.
If it happens, loading a save that is not bugged works best (in many games).

CA did their best to fix the pathfinding issue with ships in patch 1.2, but its still not waterproof. You should have it installed in any case.

Thanks for all the helpful (and very rapid!) replies.

But, embarrassed to say, I've made a typical newbie blunder - asking a question that's already had a very thorough thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=39422) addressed to it. I thought I'd browsed through most of the stuff on the SP forums, but I thought wrong! Typically, found this by accident mere hours after making the post. But my thanks none the less, and blessings be on your houses!

Now I just have to try and implement the solution............!

Cheers

I haven't had this problem since 1.2 but the way of getting back to sea that worked most reliably pre patch is:
Alt + right click in the sea next to your fleet.
This sets up a way point there from your nearest port.
You should now be able to move the fleet onto the waypoint.
Fleet is at sea.
