Why is patch v1.2 shown as a dos window

I downloaded the rtw patch v1.2 from the official page and when i tried install. it
just opened for a sec as a dos window and nothing else happened.
I didnt install v1.1 previously.
should i install v1.1 and then v1.2.
on the other hand,
can i upgrade rtw v1.1 with rtr 5.0 to rtw v1.2 patch?
couple of question, i hope it aint too much of a hustle. :dizzy2:

No, I don't think installing over a mod will work. However, you can upgrade RTW v1.0 directly to v1.2. I don't know if the install opens a dos window at any point because it won't let me run it again.

the thing is, i tried installin patch v1.2 before i installed v1.1.
now i am using patch v1.1 + RTR 5.0.
Guess i shoul deinstall all and instal rtw again then go with patch 1.1 followed by 1.2 followed by RTR 5.0 or higher.
any sugestions, anybody?

I would recommend patching a clean install only. Any testing of the patch installer by CA will ONLY have been done on a clean unmodded game. The mods could well be messing up the update installer.

If that fails....then it is possible you have a corrupt download.

Copy your savegames etc. and then uninstall. Put in a fresh 1.0 install, then patch to 1.2. Finally, add back your mods and savegames.

will do. thanx. i ll download it from another source. any sugestions for the download. one you tried. i guess it s all the same but what the hell, cant hurt to have a recommended site.
