Out of curiosity are we seeing the end of the Total War strategy games? This "Spartan: Total Warrior" is a big let down, in my opinion, because I was hoping for something Like "Napoleon: Total War" or "WW2:Total War". I am a big fan of The Creative Assembly's and Activision's high grade strategy games and I don't want to see them replaced by console beat em' ups produced by Sega. :furious3: :help:

Not at all, mate. Rather than 'changing over' to console, CA is adding console games to its inventory, ON TOP OF further developing its TotalWar strategy family of titles. It's an expansion, not a left-turn.

Check out the discussion in our Console forum:

I guess i'm more or less for the project (still haven't gotten around to seeing any screenshots or the trailor) but does this mean they arn't going to work on the expansion any time soon?

its a separate team developing Spartan Total Warrior. so the others should still be free to do the exp pack :) :balloon2:

CA has been scooped up by SEGA as they are the best PC strategy game makers in the business. SEGA is looking to expand into the PC industry and see CA as a good way. The Total War series is not going to be stopped.
Spartan was planned long before SEGA though about buying CA, for full details see this (http://p223.ezboard.com/fshoguntotalwarfrm3.showMessage?topicID=6419.topic).

With any luck Spartan:TW will be to action gaming what STW was to strat gaming, a great game in a new direction.

Dear Hannibal
There is no way TW releases a game about WW2 because it was a war of ideals and racism and it had very sophisticated logistics.
They will not make a game about more recent war (like the Gulf War) too because it invloved politics and no company wants to be involved in that.

In case you didnt notice, TW is going back in history to capture some wars that were more simple to put into play and less played before in other games.

Napoleon though could make a good challange.

Excuse my english and lack of expression ability.

Hannibal, you do not want WW2 TW. Currently, the WW2 market is flooded with games.

its not a bad thing that they are developing a console 3rd person role playing game, but it could be a bad thing if thats all CA builds, the xbox and maybe the ps2 are powerful eough to host games like rome but ppl who play the ps2 and xbox are usually younger and wouldnt be interested in the strategic stereotype surrounding the total war series to those who havent actually played it, creative is simply trying to tap into a untouched market. lets just hope they dont lose sight of what made them

if it came out on teh PC of the nintendo DS, i'd be happy. It looks like a usual beat em up. but then in the middle of a huge battle/siege. but sounds all very scripted

This new direction CA is taking is interesting. I think they just wanted a slice in the console market and see if they make ooodles. The RTW expansion will probably be released soon after Spartan, I don't think CA gave up on the PC market, its still one of the best (Its #5 on Gamespy Most Popular Games). And you dont develop an engine for one game and let the modders do the rest. So no fear there, we'll see more of Total War.

But the reality is if a company wants to make a ton of cash in the PC market, it has to be through an online game that players pay to every month. Blizzard must make millions a just through World of Warcraft alone.

Still I'm too much a Total War fan not to try Spartan. But maybe play it through an emulator, hopefully there would be one working by then.

A competition for Spartan: God of War (PS2)
"God of War tells the story of a Spartan bloke named Kratos... your mission, as given to you by the gods, is to find Pandora's Box to kill that pesky and titular god of war, Ares..." -Gamespy

i think this will pay up big for CA and the Total War series!

All of us on here own at least 1 TW game. And i think that most of us will buy Spartan just to see what its like! i know im going to as it looks awesome!!!! So i think it will well very well, and also people who don't have any TW games and buy Spartan might get into it and buy some other TW games.
