View Full Version : Gates of Fire - a movie about Thermopylae
ok ive heard about a movie that is apparently called "Gates of Fire". Its supposed to be an epic film all about the Battle of Thermopylae. As far as I know Michael Mann(Last of the Mohicans) has his name down to direct and both Bruce Willis and George Clooney are interested in starring/producing etc. Does anyone else know anything about this movie, ive been unable to find hardly any info on this project.
Try this (http://www.google.ch/search?hl=de&q=Gates+of+Fire+film&meta=). I have only had a look through some of the hits but there seems to be plenty of info there to go through...

Should't that be Gates of Heat?
Oh well I respect Michael Mann a lot so this movie is probably not gonna dissapoint. Also I think Gearge Clooney has the right look to be a greek. This could be good.

This is actually an excellent book. And Byzantine Prince, the author acknoledges that the translation is slightly inaccurate at the end in the author's note.

Alexander is such a misunderstood movie. I loved every minute of it. I didn't look for what wasn't there. You could diss any movie if you look at wasn't there. All you can critique a movie is what it son the film.
I don't think this Gates of Fire is going to be made. It's not on imdb.com at all.

I heard that it was cancelled but that was months ago...
I liked Alexander too, I just thought they could have inclcluded Issus at least. But that's another storey.
damnit. looks like we aint gonna hear much more of this, how disappointing
Bugger, now that could have been a true epic if pulled off properly. An epic battle, fighting to save their land, betrayal - it had the makings of a classic!

Isn't Michael Mann going to use Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx in a Miami Vice movie?
Gawain, can't say I have either seen or heard of it. Is it good?

the movie was good though i was a bit dissapointed cause i thought it would contain more battles and less talking, but the overall was pretty good, still i like battle movies more. *i'm a war Fanatic*
I am very thankful that production of this movie has been cancelled. Michael Mann indeed!
If I had a choice between having "Gates of Fire" made into a typical Hollyweird crapfest epic or not making it at all I'll go with the latter.

Wasn't Michael Mann involved with Last of the Mohicans? I thought that was an excellent film, and a similar type of film in some regards to Gates of Fire.

I have mixed feelings about Michael Mann. Don't get me wrong, Last of the Mohicans was a good movie but it had some rough spots and Mann's casting decisions can be spotty.
Bruce Willis and George Clooney as Spartans? No thank you! ~

I said I watched it 300 times, what do you think?
I put it on a par with Alexander the Great starring Richard Burton. Some really great fighting scenes. I still watch it whenever i stumble across it.
Yes, but as a kid ~;)
I guess I will have to see both of those movies then.
