It remained on top of KukriKhans post no matter if I scrolled down or even clicked on it. Unlike most flash advertisements this one doesn't has a close button. I am getting the urge to contact a hacker and sabotage their site, but alas I do not know hackers... anyone?
I am using Firefox by the way and normally I don't have a single popup at the Org. I opened a new tab to upload the screenshot and when I got back the ad was gone.
Is there something we can do to prevent this kind of advertisements?

Yesterday I had an advertisement here that actually disarmed my popup blocker (the red cicle with a slash through it appeared over my popup blocker's icon in my TSR area) and planted itself in the middle of my screen. It wouldn't let me close it conventionally, and when I CNTL+ALT+DEL and closed it there, it shut down my browser. I didn't bother to look at which company it was for (I was rather annoyed). It sure did agitate me for a brief moment. Probably not the same one, but I thought I'd mention it so staff would be aware. FYI.

I've noticed this in a few other threads, but not that specific ad. I'm using firefox and zonealarm pro with both blocking adverts and popups. In some threads I get the advert banner displaying across the middle of a topic, just like in this pic, but thanks to zonealarm I only see an empty box. It happens quite frequently in long topics, especially my RTW guide and my 'Eleanor' over in the Mead Hall.
Refreshing the topic fixes the issue ... most of the time. I suspect it's an issue with firefox.
You might be right I use Norton Security and I have not seen this issue yet.

I've had this a couple of timers - but only ever in conjunction with hotlinked images - I simply assumed it was something to do with whichever rubbish image hosting service was being used.

Or is it some kind of new censorship that Tosa wishes to hide by using advertisements?
What did you write, KukriKhan!?! :inquisitive:
Looks like the Verizon banner left its place at the bottom of the page for you Duke John.
It's a banner not a pop-up. No idea why you got it there in the middle of a post. A glitch in the browser? Did a page refresh fix it? Does it occur frequently?

A glitch with Mozilla it is. (That officially means erroneous HTML design though. ~;)) Reported and confirmed before in the babe thread I believe. A hard refresh (Ctrl+ Shift+) must clean it, AFAIK.

~D Heh. Only instructions on the secret Moderator handshake; you know: the one that opens up all the hidden forums, taps each user account for $2.17 (they'll never notice), and hooks us up the the Barbados online Casino, where we login with the 'Diamond Jim' user name. C'mon, you remember.
You don't?
Nevermind. ~

I can tell you people the adds arent coming from here,
I have plenty of programs that inform me when a add trys to run,
And there are none that try to open from any of the pages here,
Well at least so far, ~
Hello Shambles,
The banner adds are hosted from another server. We have very little, rather none at all, say about which, whether or when.
Not really related to the original post but i thought this would be a good place to post it.
I have noticed a really quite annoying pop-up that has some kind of Java aplet in it. It never displays anything but appears everytime i change threads. I have check my PC for nasties and i'm all clear. This pop-up has a habit of crashing my browser though!!! I use IE and have never come across this problem before! Tosa is there no way to tell those horrible advertising people to go away? I know it's probably part of the hosting deal but when it renders viewing the site it advertises on useless it does seem a bit pointless! It's just this particular one, i don't really mind clicking close immediately on the other adverts but when it crashes my browser. It makes me feel sad.
Hello *Ringo*,
I'm getting pop-ups here at times. I'm not aware of a Java one though. I'll have a chat with the host about it and pop-ups in the forum in general.

I get no popups at all,
But then again i use pestpatroll and kerio personal fire wall.
But nothing tells me that its had to block any popups from this site,
Are you shure that they come from here??

my one friends a hacker, contact him.
PM if you want his AIM.
Yup, i'm sure they are from here. I only get them on my work machine not my machine at home which strangely enough is more secure!?! Most of time they are fine i don't mind but its just that particular one!
Thx Tosa, i'd be interested to know the outcome.
It may not be from this board, could be a browser hijack by an adware program, which is very likely if you're using IE.

people, read mouzafphaerre's post, he speaks the truth.
It's definately not a browser Hijack, as i stated above i've already checked for nasties using Ad-aware, Spybot, HJT & run a panda online virus scan all came up perfectly clear.
Anyway i won't be using that machine anymore so it's no longer of any relevance to me as my home machine is fine. Thx for suggestion though. ~
