View Full Version : Pila Animation and Charge Effect?

One thing that I have noticed for some time, and is readily apparent in some of the cav charge tests is this: if I hit a pila unit at "just the right time" in its pila throwing sequence, it totally blunts the charge. It is like hitting a brick wall. I've seen it with elite swordsmen and with elite cavalry vs. the pila carriers.

I first noticed this several weeks back when doing infantry charges vs. Roman units. The pila users were absolutely killing my swordsman and falxmen because they still got in their pila kills AFTER the charge, but their "pila stance" also blunted my charge. One would think that catching them trying to throw pila would make them easy prey...but instead the opposite is true.

This looks like some sort of unintended consequence of the animation sequence where perhaps they are almost "invulnerable."

I can't say that it is a bug, but it is something that I can't make sense of.

could be a similar effect to charging a phalanx :undecided: perhaps its supposed to be, ie pila raised could easily be used as a spear on charging units

weird, in my game when they try to trow a pila and i charge, they trow the pila into the ground and i get hit.
