Idea's for makin these work better?
Maybe we can listen to ur views and use some of them in the next ones.
1 main prob i have noticed is arranging times for battle then ppl not showin up http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif
Most annoyin.Yup sometimes a major problem accurs and u just cant make it.

Ok 1 idea i have to maybe solve this problem well at least help it is;
Rules for Tourney.
1/Battles to be fought fri/Sat/sun
2/When entering u must state times u will be online at weekends.
3/week 1 u have fri/sat/sun to arrange battle and so on.
4/Mon/thu battle must be posted and arranged and agreed by both parties invovled.Failing to post will result in loss.
5/Failin to turn up no matter what reason for arranged time will count as a loss.
These r just some idea's im sure u can add to list.
If we get our heads together we can make some set tourney rules that most will be happy with.
Koku and unit limits not a problem they easy to sort out.
PLzs post ideas to make Tourneys run better http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Gah!

1) Spell out the entire schedule ahead of time.

2) Make specific times a part of that schedule.

3) Have a staff of referees online at those times to guide people and note attendance.

4) Come up with a clear rule for handling drops.

5) Pronounce rules for use of weather, maps, and other game features.

6) Make all these arrangements before opening the tourney to signing people up.

GAH!

Better yet... build a FULLY-AUTOMATED web site to do all that!

The site will

1. Display the rules

2. Create the schedule

3. Players play whenever, and when done with their current game, upload their logfiles to the site.

4. The site then reads the logfiles and
a) Checks that no rules were broken, like unit limits, map, season, koku cheats, etc.
b) Checks that all logs submitted match statistically. So, player A can't submit a 'forged' log that will clearly not match that of player B. Kind of like a checksum.

5. At the end of each "turn", the next level's schedule is displayed and people can go about setting up their matches.

It's almost like an online campaign, but without "moves".

Easy smeasy, japaneasy!

You can add an admin role to move the turn to the next level if you want a human to retain control.

Add an admin panel where a tourney can be created. Enter the host, any human contacts, number of players, style of tourney (ie, Final 4 or Olympic Soccer), number of brackets, players per group, etc, etc, etc.

Thats my 39 koku. That's the only way it will work in my view. All else is just too arbitrary and too dependant on volunteer time. Make the site, then let it run unattended, with an admin to check on it from time to time.

You can even specify matches not completed in x amount of time are marked as a loss, and let the admin pick who gets it. But this, hopefully, would be minimal impact, as there would be a easy-as-heck form the admin can use to do this.

I'm telling you... this would be a piece of cake to write up... in about a month's time.

And... there is no tight schedule! No more of the "Doh! I'm out with the geisha but its time for my match!" crap... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Or...

You can just go on depending on traditionally regular 'people'...

But, hey... I haven't played in a tourney since... since... forever... So what do I really know?

Vanya I wondered who got into my storage room of Moonshine. I forgive you, but please send the jugs back ASAP. They are made of aged clay that has slowly over the years absorbed much of the flavor of my special 'shine' and I would hate to start over with new clay, it has such a lead taste to it. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

lol Vanya, that sounds like my campaign without the technical back-up. If you are wondering, its still pretty much active www.domscampaign.cjb.net (http://www.domscampaign.cjb.net) . We did have ony 5 or 6 battles so far, but noone can really complain, since we all got lives (xcept me, I guess). But we do play games when we have enough players on. Absence of schedule means that players can carry on with their ordinary gamely duties like honour hunting, spamming or even rock climbing and still have a feeling that they are a part of something big and lasting, and, of course, everybody gets to play on some occasions.

BTW if there is someone out there who can assist with programming needed to submit logfiles online and for them to be read automatically, plz drop me an email.

Well Fast.
it isnt that bad idea.

Because then u can be sure the games would be played and if some1 doesnt show up its a loss so he knows when he made the deal and when he has to come online.

Otherwise u always have to search for the guy u have to play.

Best yet is to arrange all competitors to travel to a nice place for a cool 1 week tourney in some network gaming shop somewhere on Earth.

Losers pay for the airfares as such. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

You mean... I have to remove the jug from my neck?!? I thought it made such a nice craneal ornament... and so utilitarian too!

BTW... I have been using them to store Ramen Noodles... Hope you don't mind... I'm sure they will, if anything, ADD flavor to your next batch of 'shine... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

GAH! Here is an idea... let it be 3v3... but let the users set up teams with more than 3... that way, the extras can help alleviate the schedule conflicts. If you have 5 people, its easier to get any 3 to show up at any given time than to have everybody in a team do so.

Very good idea Vanya.

For a 3v3 tournament, the teams should be at least four, five isn't a bad idea at all.

Difficulties in scheduling can easily torpedo the whole boat, and this plan could avoid those problems.
