Hello.

under my view of knowlage is good,
You dont know where your going unless you know where youve been
and
Whats the point in having something if you dont share,

i have decided to make this post,
(also i neglected the sword dojo a lot last few days)

now i dont know how difficult this may be but, I wshh for people to share knowlage,
I dont know very much at all about The old ways and how life was back in the times of shogun,

I have tried to learn all i can about anything that is Interesting,
And history to me is Very interesting,

neglecting history has always been a mistake,
For instance,
The romans hand central heating, Then they were no more, and Wham no more central heating (not till 20th century!!)

When churches and preists firs started experimenting with the elixier of life They invented Science,
They also invented an aroplane, Which flew But crashed,
the inventor (a monk) said he could make it work if he put a taill on it,
His master forbade him from ever trying again as he could have died,

750 years later they think they have just figured it out...
Why? cos nobody remebered.

So please. Share your knowlage.

Becous i realy dont know much of anything about this culture,
and i am some what ashamed to admit that, as i know quite abit about other cultures.

Count me in man...I like history stuff and especially during tha samurai period in Japan. So to start with I'll give you this - http://www.samurai-archives.com/index.html

This is tha site that you should have and you can find all tha history of all samurai cultures in there, basically..everthing bout samurai history. So if you wana discuss bout it Im glad to share it with you. Like you said, its really interesting and fun to learn all of this and yes...Im really into that.

Samurai-Archives is good. I will recommend a book. It is relatively cheap ($14), and an excellent resource.

Everyday Life in Traditional Japan by Charles Dunn, ISBN 080-471-3841 (Dashes don't count, but they do let you split it up into the same format as a phone number! Just give the ISBN to your local bookstore, they should be able to look it up in their system.)

It deals with the Tokugawa period mostly, which is just after Sengoku-Jidai, but the differences are relatively small.

Shambles, you may do better to narrow the focus of your question. I really don't know where to start.

If you enjoy historical fiction, do read "Taiko" by Eiji Yoshikawa. It should thoroughly entertain you, while providing a general idea of what life was like in the Sengoku Jidai. The story centers around the life of Toyotomi Hideyoshi who, along with Nobunaga and Ieyasu, was considered to be one of the three unifiers of Japan. Many characters in the book appear as generals of the various clans in the Shogun game, and some of the battles are covered as well. As Yoshikawa was Japanese, his perpective is arguably a bit more genuine that those of western writers. It's one of my favorite historical fiction tales.

EDIT: a side note, if you enjoy "Taiko" you might consider Yoshikawa's "Musashi" as well, a tale about Japan's most famous swordsman, and the original "Kensai."

Hehe...you too Drisos, our learning Taisho have finally become a Christian samurai eh...soon you will become tha daimyo, no worries.
