Its not harder than to get the "challenging" Programmed Oponnent (for marketing reasons called "AI") that many demand on this and other forums...
What NOBODY demands is a game like many other games which HAVE 100% multiplayer...
The whole "itcantbedonewouldtakelongtime" is very nice to hear from the devs but its the gospel of any "bad"AI"RTWsuckzz" whiner...
What about the 4th option to fight the battle online? A saveable campaign? An ongoing MMORPG style campmap? There are plenty of options, but instead of showng to the devs=publishers that it can be done and what would satisfy the need of challenge, the hardcore community demands something that even if provided wouldnt have the hardware to support it...
Until there is a MP campaign or campaign battles fought online there wont be ANY kind of challenge in RTW...

I would not be able to play battles if that happened and i think CA would lose a lot of customers. Possibly too many to be able to pay for the servers. It is a good idea though.

Your right. This is my great irritation with MTW and RTW.

Even with the very old game Imperialisme I and Imperialisme II this was possible. And the real hardstuf (playing the battles) is already possible....

Hmm as I see now, some millions of nice people have downloaded RTW in the nice programm called e-mule, why they did it? Maybe because of weak MP? Maybe if the quality was reversed like it was crap SP (like it is even now) and quality MP they would be forced to pay for the CD KEY?
Now are the nice people at Blizzard crazy? Are they a charity organisation? Why then they maintain Battlenet? Why they make patches for a 10 years old game? Is there a 2005 patch for ShogunTW? Why their sales of ORIGINAL copies of same boring click fest shortcut memorising RTS games OUTSELL CA's tactical games? Whithout any TV shows?
The answers are up to you...

A simple solution to the problem of idiots downloading RTW off e-mule would be that for you to be able to play RTW in any way what-so-ever you would have to register the entire game on the internet with your CD key. This would prevent the large majority of idiots using it, as they prolly wouldn't know where to get a no CD-key.

Do you actually believe that you cant download and play HL2? Heh all the net cafes in greece have it pirated same as RTW, but guess what? They all have 100% legal Warcraft3 copies...Why? Maybe because the game is dump without battlenet? What can you do with a pirated/dowloaded copy of W3? Nothing...So you as a good boy/girl go to the shop and ditch 30£ for it if you want to enjoy it...something that RTW has no power to impose...
