View Full Version : Favourite "elite" unit?

Does anyone have a particular unit that they really look after, just to see it achieve elite status? In my current Julii campaign I'm using a lot of Rhodian and Balearic slingers. One of the units I recruited in Palma is now on 3 gold chevrons with gold weapons for a missile attack strength of 21. They're still at full strength and racking up 200+ kills in every battle - truly the dog's Balearics! ~D

I had not really an elite unit more of an elite navy. They all had full Rankings and were truley unstopable. They truley were the golden fleet.
~;)

Spartan Hoplites by far. "Rout" is simply not in their vocabulary.

i know this is rather unralated but still imagin what a whole army of fully ranked spartan hoplites could do..................... yep probably conquer the whole campagn map :)

A high valour heavy onager unit, or scorpion... always good for a tasty treat - roasted, or skewered'n'grilled.

I like to keep one unit of Praetorian Cohort's with each of my early Legionary armies & one unit of Urban Cohort's with my late Legionary armies. These are the units that i always use (to quell rebellions etc.) Consequently these "Elite" units become, over time, the Elitist of the Elite!

I got my first Gold chevron on a Urban Cohort the other day, he's now queued up waiting outside Rome for the rest of my troops to be in place & the impending civil war. ~D

EDIT:For my terrible grammar!!

I wonder if you'll have this in AoE 3?

I have a three gold chevron militia cavalry unit running around in my Thrace game, and they usually beat up anything. They have been particularly effective against the Macedonian's light lancers.

Aside from that, I have a unit of Bastarnae which I am training up, who are going to be murderous when they get there. Hell they are murderous allready, they are just going to get worse.

I beleive they wear clothes. Even the naked fanatics wear clothes. But only a rag sort of thing. Much like Thracian warriors..

My games never last long enough to build an elite unit. My closest was a 2 gold chevron Scythed Chariot (the rebel killer) killed off 90% of the opponents army in one battle, and it has yet to run amok.

Yeah I had to cut it down to fit.

Here it is in full:This is the actual radio conversation of a US plane with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October 1995. Radio conversation released by the chief of naval operations, 10-10-95.

CANADIANS: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision.

AMERICANS: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the north to avoid a collision.

CANADIANS: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision.

AMERICANS: This is the captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.

CANADIANS: No, I say again, you divert YOUR course.

AMERICANS: This is the Aircraft Carrier US LINCOLN, the second largest ship in the United States Atlantic Fleet. We are accompanied with three Destroyers, three Cruisers and numerous support vessels. I DEMAND that you change your course 15 degrees north. I say again, that's one-five degrees north, or counter-measures will be undertaken to ensure the safety of this plane.

CANADIANS: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

The militia cavalry saved me a few times in the early game, two units of htem working together can really devestate the AI. Thrace has a difficult run in the first part of the game (Pontus, Scythia, Dacia, Macedon, The Greek Cities and the Brutii all can attack you within five turns), but if you can tech up their later forces are pretty brutal. Phalanxes plus heavy shock troops = bad for just about anyone.

The Canadian/American story is actually a myth. Check Snopes.

It's funny, though.

My favourite elite unit is my general. ~D Ride to glory! I know you all are immortals, it just takes time for resurruction.

Though I would really, REALLY like if I would have a general's bodyguard unit as a group of elephants...

Imagine: AN ARMY OF (GENERALS) RECHARGABLE ARMORED ELEPHANTS!
