I am fairly new to the modding community and trying to mod RTW for a fantasy setting I have created. I haven't come across anything dealing with editing the religions. What i want to do is rename the religions and temples as well as edit the traits of the priests. no more roman pantheon i want to make my own. Does anyone have an knowledge or experience here or know of any tools for this?

In the game a religion only really comprises of its temples and its priests.

For the priests you need to edit the ancillaries files, you can find some useful links for that here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=45784).

For the temples, if you have a look in export_descr_buildings you'll see that all the temples are generic (temple of fun, temple of law etc.) and merely differentiated by their bonuses. You can mod the bonuses there and change the name of the temple (so that it appears as Temple of Little Jimmy Osmond in the game for example) in the export_buildings file within the data/text/ folder. You might find using a building editor such as Hadrian (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=38858) makes it easier.
