I started an italian game today, and was doing quite well. I had conquered most of eastern france, germany, scandanavia, scotland and parts of russia and was planning to move into england and the english provinces in france when all of the world's bad luck focuses on, guess who? Me. I hit the end turn button, and my entire campaign is brought to a halt by two things. Civil war. Thanks to the civil war, at least half of my empire joins the rebel side, and then to make matters worse, the Germans and Polish reappear in the rebel provinces.

Talk about bad luck....

This is why MTW's gameplay is ten times better than RTW.

At least you have a challenge! I ended up with a civil war last time I played the Italians, too - though it was a lot earlier in the campaign and wasn't complicated by any re-emergences. I'd gotten lax about keeping very loyal generals at the top of my stacks and the crap hit the fan when the king died. (I'm glad to hear you didn't just reload - these are the kinds of suprises that keep me playing MTW.)

Is it just me or are the vikings overpowered in the viking campagn. The only battles i lost as the viking were when i was outnumbered immensly.

I think so - but they make the game a lot more interesting when you play as one of the other factions. I think that's their real purpose.

The vikings are really powerful but they have to deal with their lackustre economy...
If you raid the wrong places you're screwed for good.

In my VI campaigns the Mercians usually gain the upper hand unless I raid their better provinces.

As you're talking in pounds I assume you're in the UK. I bought MTW and VI recently at GAME as part of a 3 for £20 deal, so it cost me £13.33.

I'm playing my first campaign at the moment, and so far it's worth every penny!
