well, it was bound to happen sooner or later...

over at .com TheShogun has officially proclaimed a gag order on complaints for a new patch. his previous controversial quasi-response on the "loadgame issue" (http://p223.ezboard.com/fshoguntotalwarfrm7.showMessage?topicID=24377.topic) has been unpinned and in its place is a decree that any peep of dissent will be met with swift "justice"...

Meaning if you complain a big fat guy in a centurion outfit will come to you house and force you to play the game and like it. j/k :)

In other words, the .com has finally declared martial law. Any 'unlawful' doings, and whack, your account is gone like it never existed.

It was bound to happen sooner or later, tyrants.

Patch Campaign
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can I take the time to say a big thank you to the vast majority of users at these forums whose behaviour is outstanding. Their support for the TW series is what keeps us striving to produce the games we do.

We are currently in a quiet period after a major release as we have yet to announce our latest plans for the TW series. As so often in these periods, some individuals turn their efforts to less-than-constructive activities. The guerrilla tactics being advocated by some individuals in an attempt to persuade us to release another patch for Rome: Total War are futile and can only backfire on the perpetrators.

Were their campaign to be as successful as they hope, all it would do is to harm the Total War series. For there to be another official patch, the QA cost would need to be funded by Activision and this is apparently not going to happen. This is obviously beyond CA's control so please stop giving CA grief over this.

I see absolutely no reason to let individuals who are set on damaging the TW series (no matter how good their declared intentions) continue posting here. Why would we encourage such behaviour on a board that we pay to keep running? Continued destructive posting will result in the individuals concerned being banned.

Harm it? This 2 patch policy has probably done more than anything else to harm the TW series.

I'm surprised he doesn't just say 'Long live the People's Republic of .Com!' Pah. I say, hurrah for the free speech over here at the org, where we are free to moan without harrassment!!

The way I see it, if Shogun made such a posting, then the efforts being made by us lowly customers must be receiving some notice. Here is an interesting passage from Shogun's edict:

"Were their campaign to be as successful as they hope, all it would do is to harm the Total War series. For there to be another official patch, the QA cost would need to be funded by Activision and this is apparently not going to happen. This is obviously beyond CA's control so please stop giving CA grief over this." - Shogun on .COM

I find it interesting that only now is there any mention of who would be paying for a theoretical patch. I also consider it to be a distortion to say "all it would do is to harm the Total War series". That's not quite right. The harm that COULD come to the Total War series is rather a direct result of CA/Activision/SEGA taking action or not over a definite serious bug. If they consider their reputation worth safeguarding, they will find a remedy.

It is also true that no one would be writing to Alex at SEGA if CA and/or Activision had been listening prior to now. Here's another telling excerpt which speaks to the contempt with which dissatisfied customers are held by some members of CA staff:

"We are currently in a quiet period after a major release as we have yet to announce our latest plans for the TW series. As so often in these periods, some individuals turn their efforts to less-than-constructive activities. The guerrilla tactics being advocated by some individuals in an attempt to persuade us to release another patch for Rome: Total War are futile and can only backfire on the perpetrators." -Shogun on .COM

Guerrilla tactics? You've got to be kidding me!! Since when did writing in to companies and magazines get classified as "guerrilla tactics"?? That is a shameful thing for Shogun to say! I just can't believe SEGA wants interaction with their customers to be of this variety.

Well, regardless of Shogun's thoughts on the matter, I've written to Alex at SEGA, I've reviewed the game at several sites and detailed what I find wrong and why it's a problem, and I've been careful to always mention that CA was well informed of what was going on and chose to do nothing about it. I guess that makes me a "perpetrator".

My advice: tread a little carefully here. The Org is not a platform for members to bash other forums. We can discuss the issues all we want, but let's keep it civil about CA, The Shogun and the .com forums.

Activity at other forums does NOT make for appropriate discussion here in the Colosseum.

Is this difficult to understand?
