After installing this yesterday, it took me straight to rar and I couldn't do anything with it. I tried extracting it and it didn't work. Can somebody please tell me how to install this correctly?
And yes, I have all the requirements and have made a copy of RTW.

hey dime, i have been a big fan of this mod since it came out. i play it more the vanilla rtw. infact i don't play vanilla at all. just this. but i have been trying to delete the thorakitai and thereophori or however you spell it. but i can't seem to get rid of them. i delete all the texts in the files and i get a ctd. can't remeber what it said but it was just stupid. personaly i think there are too many skirmishers and light infantry added to this mod which means when fighting a greek nation you never see a phalanx because light infantry and skirmishers are cheap. there for you never see phalangites. when campaining against greeks if feels like i'm fighting the gauls on a town level. no challenge at all. especially with the seleucids. i never see a phalanx with them. just thereopoopii and thrakadakacrappii and sarabarabbababba. not only that but parthia, pontus, bactria, armenia, and scythia are always over-run by turn 10 by the endless seleucid crap stacks. it might as well be called the invincible seleucid mod. unless you mod it yourself to keep it balanced. i don't mean to knock your mod. like i said i've been playing it for years now. i just need to know how to get rid of the thereopoopii and thrakadakacrappii
so i can move levy phalangites in their place. i miss the phalanx sooo much:embarassed:

The easiest way to do what you want would be to edit [Rome]\xgm\data\export_descr_units.txt. Search for "greek heavy peltast" and then change the stat_cost line. The first number on the line is the cost to recruit - if you increase that it will discourage the AI from recruiting that unit. If you double the number I doubt if you will see many recruited.Removing the unit entirely is a lot more complicated.
BTW, you might want to check the download page (http://www.wmwiki.com/hosted/xgm/) for a more recent version. The Seleucids tend to recruit more heavy infantry now.

I like the added Spartan Periokoi units in XGM 5_6_7.
I know it's a bit early to suggest this,but for a future release,why not consider adding a Helot unit,that way all three of the Spartan social classes (Spartiate,Periokoi,Helot) are represented?

Hello friends,
I am new here and this is my very post in the forums.

I am Greek and work as a writer and translator of books on ancient Greek Battles. My recent work has led me to want to play XGM.
I have installed ROME TOTAL and Barbarian Invasion.
I tried to install these 3 patches:
rome_totalwar_patch_1-3.zip
rome_total_war_patch_1-5.zip
rome_total_war_patch_1-6.zip
And my game would not accept any of them. Clicking on the options tab I saw that my RTW is v. 1.3 and my Barb Invasion is v. 1.4.
I tried to install the latest version of XGM and it will not install. This was
XGM_5_6_7.zip.
I read somewhere that XGM is for version 1.2--where can I get the v 1.2 patch--I have looked and have not found it.
I also have no CD exes in my Game directory. I am thinking that perhaps these are to blame for my problems but I am not sure. I could install the original exes if need be.
:help: Can anyone help as to what to do to get one version of HGM working?
I would appreciate it.
Should I perhaps install the original version only, what people call vanilla?
And then patch to 1.2??
By the way, I have seen information about Greek battles and units and historical facts in another forum which is hopelessy wrong. I will be posting informative posts for your use if I can find a right section in these forums.

jinx: The current version of XGM is designed to work with RTW 1.5, BI 1.6, or Alexander 1.9.
If you have Barbarian Invasion then all you need is the 1.6 patch. If you have trouble installing that, try asking for help in the tech. support forum here (http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/forums/92).
If you can't get it to work at all, then you can get older versions of XGM that will work with RTW 1.3/1.4 here (http://www.wmwiki.com/hosted/xgm/).

I did manage to install XGM 3 and play a battle, though I wanted to be on the other side, the opposite army, and could not.
Is there a way one can make all armies playable?
Also, I could not set up a Quick Battle and got messages about the same team. I should find a Readme, I guess.

In custom battles you can play whichever faction you like, but you can't fight against the same faction (i.e. you can't have the Greek Cities vs the Greek Cities).

Why doesn't this mod have its own sub-forum? It's a great mod, it just needs to have its own sub-forum. Couldn't you petition the Org Moderators or something?
It was it's own forum over at the twcenter, so I guess they don't bother with one here.

hey dime, i installed the latest update of xgm about a mounth ago and it's excellent.:2thumbsup: before i was playing 4_1_25 and moddified the hell out of it. mostly adding new modles from other mods and various downloads. the best thing i did was give each greek faction a different phalangite unit and i pretty much replaced every vanilla unit.
but now that i've played 5_6_7 for a while i want to add some new units. but i can't find export_descr_unit_enums. do you need that or is it hiding somewhere? i haven't tried to install anything yet because i can't find this file.
anyways great work... especialy with weeding out those useless provinces in south africa. and i really like the silver sheild legionaries.:yes:

your question doesn't need a specific answer regarding XGM - the enums file isn't used in RTW1.5/BI 1.6 which latest versions of this mod run on.
Therefore you don't need the enums file.... :thumbsup:

hell yeah! just one less file to worry about. sometimes i wish tw games came with a sub modding program. that way all you have to do is load up a map and point and click like the old Civ 3 game. since i discoverd how to mod rtw i do alot of this:dizzy2: :furious3: :help: :wall: :idea2:

i have a problem i clicked the link to download on front page, then i click to download the latest version of the extended greek mod and nothing happens it just stays on the same screen and doesnt do anything, ANY TIPS?

think that you must have a problem with your browser settings - have you got a particularly aggressive pop up blocker or safety feature?
some antivirus' and pop up blocker is turned off

I am having some problems with XGM! I have gotten to a point where XGM crashes to desktop when I go through a turn. I have turned off Loyality as I thought that was causing it bofore but it is still crashing. I believe it maybe caused by characters moving whilst the turn is going from faction to faction. Anyone know how I can sort this and carry on with showing the world greek culture and steel!

Is the CTD occuring in or around the mid 260s? :inquisitive:
Did you make any changes to the descr_disasters file? I had incorrectly disabled plagues and that turned out to be my problem.

Version 5.6.8 is available (http://www.wmwiki.com/hosted/xgm/). The only changes are several bug fixes. Saved games back to version 5.6.0 will probably work, but they will still be bugged, so it's best to start a new campaign.
The most serious bug fixed in this version was a problem with the Eastern Kingdoms that occurs when that faction bribes a settlement. I fixed the problem by removing their diplomats. If you want to continue a saved campaign from an earlier version there are instructions for killing off the Eastern Kingdoms here (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=167481).

I need some help installing this, i've never been able to make it work. I have 1.5 and BI1.6 and it works for other mods such as RTR,EB, but when i am installing this game, i get several errors during installation such as "this copy is not patched to 1.5,1.6"(when it is) and other problems such as "patch.pat file missing" and such error messages. I would like to know how to install it correctly. (this was the latest XGM version 5.8.1

Try reinstalling the 1.5 patch. Sometimes installing BI reverts RTW back to 1.3.
As for the skeleton problem, DBH will have to answer that. Sorry. :sweatdrop:

Titus Magnus: Sounds like your original game files have been messed up by one or more of those other mods. You will need to re-install RTW so that you have a clean (unmodified) data folder.
I have the last version of xgm and i'm having trouble with a unit(Spartan Phalangites) .I see the unit in custom battle but in the campaign it doesn't appear.Sorry for my english .

The Marian Reforms trigger the availability of the Periokoi Phalangites. Once they hit, the Periokoi Hoplites are replaced by them.
Marian Reforms are triggered when any Roman city in Italy (with the exception of Rome itself) reaches huge level.

Hey man I made an account on this site just to tell you what a great job you did on this mod. This mod has extended my play time for many many hours and I've always meant to commend you on it. I just want to applaud you for not drastically overhauling any aspects of the game while adding so much interesting content.
I REALLY hope you could do something similar for M2TW, because there are just too many "build one building a turn and take several turns to plan the taking of a city, mods", which I find highly irritating. What sort of country only builds one building every 6-12 months???

I downloaded the greek mod XGM 5.8.26 OK. When i try to play the greek cities i click on the greek standard, to choose the faction I want to play as. Can anyone tell me how to resolve that. The mod does let me play the regional game as Syracuse though but i am having problems making any real headway in the game when it comes to making money and have resorted to sacking cities which is just bailing me out of the red. I also noticed that the towers in cities do not inflict as many casualties on attacking armies.
I am now downloading XGM 5.7.22 to see how that goes instead.
I did try another mod, i think that was version 4 and played as teh greeks but the game crashed in 247 BC, twice.
All in all the mods are great and add a much wider variety to the vanilla, keep up the good work

OK i messed up my last post. What i was trying to say I downloaded XGM 4 final, when i got 247 BC the game crashed twice. I played 5.8.26 and hwne i click on the greek standard to choose the faction i want to play as teh game crashes. I did play as syracuse on the same version. The game has also crashed on 5.7.22 when i choose to play as the greeks.
When i was playing as syracuse on EC/MB i could just about make ends meet, money wise and resorted to sacking cities which did not keep me out of the res. Also i noticed that the towers in cities do not inflict as many casualties on invading armies as in vanilla RTW and it takes a long time to inflict any casualties when my units are in hand to hand.
Any help you can give will be appreciated

Sounds like your install has been messed up - possibly due to another mod messing around with your original files.

first off, fantastic mod. I've been a fan of since the beginning and XGM is a must when ever i play rtw.
My only issue that thrace is now a barbarian faction. Is there any way I can change them back to a western faction?
