Damn Straight. Britain contributed most to the world. TV, the light bulb, football, the BBC, penicillin, the steam engine (re-invented, after Heron of Alexandria invented it some 2000 years previously), and, of course, the English language. And Australia, Canada, the U.S., New Zealand, and half of the West Indies' states

Which Europeans are the most efficient?
Despite their recent economic woes, the Germans are still seen as the most efficient in Europe, with a thumping 45 per cent rating.
From all over Europe came accolades. In Belgium, a woman asserted, "The Germans always respect their agreements."
must have come as surprise to Stalin, no? :charge:

If you couldn't be your own nationality, which other European one would you choose?
The UK came joint fourth with Switzerland on nine per cent.
A 50-year-old Belgian writer very nearly opted for British nationality. "But they have not joined the euro so I do not consider them Europeans."
nor do I. ~

Outside of Europe where I live,

-The Brits are considered to be the most gentlemen. They even teach that in elementary school.

-I heard some good Swedish punk music on the radio. I don't remember their names because I heard them only once.
Unfortunately, we don't know much about Sweden.

-The Italians and Greeks are known for contributing many ideas to the rest of Europe during ancient times.
The Greeks are known for having the healthiest diet.

-The Dutch are known for their total football. Hiddink made a big impression when his team beat South Korea 5-0 during the World Cup in France. He became a popular coach for the Koreans.
The Dutch are the tallest Europeans on average.

-Koreans think the Germans are the most efficient. Koreans envy how the Germans were able to unify Germany. I think Korea will not be unified in a long time.

-I heard that the Northern Europeans were less hairy than the Southern ones. Very few of us saw any half-nude Europeans. ~

Btw- I'm glad that I can read your opinions here. Totalwar.com would've closed this thread.

I think so. The singer screeched very loudly. I would lose my voice if I sang like he did.
There were other bands in which the singers were girls.

Britain contributed most to the world. TV, . . .

hmm....

this is partially true, the Brits created an early type of TV, but the telly that we watch today is mostly an American invention. The truth is that lots of people in several countries contributed to the development of TV.

John Logie Baird invented the television before it was invented by the American person. But now people also often use the LCD and plasma televisions, so couldn't the people who made these also be credited with inventing television?
Back in the early days of the BBC, people had a choice between Baird's system, and the Marconi (they produced the American version here) system.

Joseph Wilson Swan, Henry Woodward, Mathew Evans, James Bowman Lindsay, William Sawyer, and Thomas Edison all are attributed with inventing the electric lightbulb, and they are English, Scottish, Canadian, German, and American.

I'm glad you guys explained that; had me scratching my head for a few minutes. ~:) I found Germans not rude, but very direct in their language (especially their English; and I mean those with only school-learnt english, not those who had immersed in an english environment), a distinction missed by some of my fellow Yanks. I never in two years found any German stranger who would not help me find the correct train, or direct me to a hotel or other place I sought - often taking me by the arm to show me the way. That's not rudeness, that's efficient helpfulness.

There is actually a nice little book - "These Strange German Ways" - written by Susan Stern (a British woman living in Germany), that IMHO does a good job in describing all the typical large and small little things in German culture that might seem odd (especially to people from Britain and the US)

I know you're speaking of Germans, but if you could enlighten me I'd appreciate it.

I had a French roommate for a few years and I noticed in conversation he would go on and on and it would be difficult to break in. I was expecting a ping-pong type conversation style like is the norm over here in the US, but he seemed to enjoy being interupted and liked interupting back. Could this be a Latin thing? I noticed this with some Italians I've met and some Hispanics in the US.

Almost as if they view themselves and their conversation partner's voices like two streams that constantly flow, criss-cross, and spill over each other.

Germanic language speakers seem to prefer a 'ping-pong' style format when conversing. One person says something, the other waits and responds and so on.

It seems to me that Latin language speakers are more comfortable going on and on until they are interrupted and it goes back and forth.

Sorry for my ramblings, I have a big certification exam on thursday and my brain is melting thanks to studying so much.

As a French and being rude and arrogant, I will defend the Serbs.
No, I will first correct few mistakes: VIVE la France, not viva, and Zivao Serbja... For the Polish, I don't know. My natural arrogance doesn't go to the extrem not to recognize when I don't know.
The Serbs are the most nice poeple I never met. Well, that is true for most of the Balkanic poeple, Croats, Bosnian, Serbs, Macedonian and Albanians. These are the only one I had to met the last years... That doesn't mean they aren't able to commit crimes and slaughters, as the recent history showed, but all of them will offer what they have when you visit them. Even after been bombed by the NATO Airforces, included, at my great shame, the one from my country. (without UN backing, that is why I didn't buy Chirac's attitude for Irack second turn...)...
Like every country, they have their thieves, criminals and others... But you can walk at midnight in Zagreb, Beograd and Skopje without fear...
Can you tell me, in how many countries did you lived and shared not only few weeks? What give you the knowledge and inside to judge others?
Are you not tired of the "we are the best" approach. I don't know if Pasteur, Voltaire, Diderot, or what ever other French I will find were genious because they were french or just because there were humans, but what I know is they have no link with me... You will find great humans in every nations (Tesla is a Serb from Croatia)...
If you want to be proud of your country, find with me. Just stop to devaluated the others.
