View Full Version : Drunks
Does anybody know if a tavern gives generals the drinking line of traits? It seems to me that when I play Barbarians they always become a family of hopeless alcoholics after while...
And if a tavern does give them drinking traits, does a bardic circle do the same thing?

Im afraid it does. I allways make a unalcaholic barbarian culture as the taverns just make every one drunk.

Yes the taverns and bardic circles make drunks. If you are a non-barbarian culture and you capture a settlement with one of these buildings, you should destroy it to avoid the drunk traits if you are keeping a general there.

I think it is only a good thing that governors sometimes have bad traits.

I agree. Having a perfect governor is just plain stupid at times. Also, the second level of 'drink' (which is the first to have a negative effect) seems pretty reasonable to me. The first level of the drink trait is actually positive... it gives +1 to command.

I'm Playing as Germania now and I nevr build Tavers cause i don't want the Drunk Vices for my Generals. In Alesia I have built every single building except the Tavern cause I hate the Drunk vice (though i admit the virtue social drinker is handy)
But since I have recently found out I can build Night raiders in the Bardic circle then I may make one of my cities have a tavern (though it will have no Governer)
Thanks for the answers you guys. I think I will keep building them though, but maybe watch out when there is a governor in town...

The Tavern gets you some drunken hangers-on in your entourage who reduce the abilities of your general even more by encouraging him to drink to excess. Upgrading to a bardic circle means you get bards joining your entourage which increases the influence of your general, and therefore public order when he governs a settlement.
I like to transfer hangers-on who increase influence to generals who are going to be sent out to capture foreign settlements, especially ones with a different culture, because of the public order bonus.

You know I just remembered that we were told that triats would be different for what faction/culture it affected. Such as a 'Likes Boys' for Greeks would be positive while negative for most others. So I wonder if not ther should be a small change to the drinking traits so that Barbarians get Morale and/or Influence from it.
In any case I think I will lower the chances of the drinking traits.

I agree with that, lol... or maybe "swings both ways" for the Greeks..

Good idea. After all, Barbarians were (and are) known for their ability to swallow large amounts of alcoholic beverages (beer!) without problems.
Maybe they should have a trait like 'True Barbarian' ("This man's drinking capacity would even make Woden jealous.", +2 morale, +3 command) or 'Cambrinus' ("The ability to swallow large amounts of beer really keeps the brewing economy going." +2 managment)
Well of course the traits would eventuallt become bad at least for Command, it isn't too good that your commander(s) is/are drunk, the Russians have proven that too many times.
But at least initially he would be at the center of society, a mighty man who is not afraid to step up to a challenge.
