I was reading various post and after recently beating the game (100%) with the italians, I was wondering if anyone else done it - and with what nation.

A lot of people are right, it does get boring when you have so much land. For instance, I had to put 3-4 spies in EVERY province to make sure I don't mass rebel among other boring feats.

I also received 100% in VI using the Scots, that one was more fun but I could have finished earlier if I wasn't so GUNG HO about taking the Viking Homeland. I didn't know you didn't need to finish them off to win. SO IT TOOK ME EONS to get them to rebel. Sure, some make it sound easy but I kid you not, I had over 40 spies, and 20 VALOR 3 assasions, poping off heirs every turn yet no rebellions nor a viking loss due to no heirs. I KID YOU NOT, I LOST TRACK OF VIKING HEIRS at 34 in 50 years.

K- so I am rambling, I just thought it was odd, thats all.

I also have trouble keeping up the interest after a certain point. I've done 100% conquest a couple of times, but mostly I abandon the game when I've consistently gotten the "largest military/biggest income/most advanced/etc." stuff, when the GH has come and gone again, and no other faction offers any serious opposition. The most interesting part of the game for me is the start phase, where you're seriously struggling for your existence.

I think what most people find is that, though as small fractured factions they dream of world conquest: uniting all lands under one solitary banner of a grand empire; it begins to get very lonely at the top.

Sure the world rests within your palm, and the clinch of your fist may send some provences screaming as you crush their rebelions and uprisings, but who is left to admire all your hard work? A bunch of fat and greedy governors? A bunch of assasins and spies, who's only remaining task is to be tatle tales on peasants and kinsmen?

It's as if you've done it all just to surround yourself with a bunch of finks, who are often the very people you initially set out to rid the world of in the first place.

It's all very Orwelian if you ask me... with the pigs and that donkey and a couple chickens...

I just like to do 60%, after that you either get a bunch of small factions you're on war in multiple fronts with or another big faction you contend the world with, usually with them using large, low tech armies.

It depends on why one plays. Sure the challenge isn't that great once you get past 60%, and Yoyoma makes a great post about fat guvs.

Once you play online the AI can never really compare. Don't get me wrong, AI battles can be extemely fun and challenging. But if I want a good fight I go noline.

I play the SP campaign to relax. For me its more about building up an empire than winning. While the world that I live in is pretty crazy, by playing I can experiment and exert my will and (yes I'll say it) control the world.

For me its quite relaxing to casually go thru my provinces and order the next building, check the guv to make sure he's not smuggling, set the tax rate.

An old cowboy once told Its only work if you'd rather be someplace else

So I don't see the last few years as work, just way to spend an hour in the evening.

I just apply the fun test. While a campaign is still fun I play it. Usually it stops being fun once its (really) obvious you are going to win (in fact I think I've only ever got even to 60% once before starting another campaign). Sometimes I'll play on past that point (eg if there are some late game units I feel like trying) but not really bother about managing most of the empire that well.

I have played all the VI factions to 100% victory. It just doesn't seem like a win if I stop short when playing VI. The campaign is short enough anyway as I don't think I have ever taken longer than till about 925 to finish.

In Medieval, I have played 3 campaigns to 100 wins. All were with Medmod loaded. HRE starting in High, English starting in Early, and Poles starting in Late. I just had to see if I could do it with the Poles in Late because it is darn hard to kill everyone in the time allowed.

Ottoman Turks, at least twice maybe three times. Gotta love Janissaries. I think I have done it with someone else but cannot remember. I have also been able to do it before but given up to play as someone else.
