I'm a member of a some acting groups in London so I have access to a couple of useful mailing lists and have a rather spiffing British accent, though I say so myself, old boy, what? ~D
EDIT: Of course, there's always the Barberus Tabernus (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/index.php?showforum=85) over at twc, they've got threads for Dutch and Portugeuse speakers (no Zulu thread yet!).

What sort of British accents are you needing?

Wow, three replies already, brilliant!
For British voice actor we are looking for someone with a rarther spiffing accent that is quite obviously British. I'm not sure yet if we are going to need sperate ones for Welsh and Scottish too but a London accent would be great.
For dutch voice acting, well we are looking for a Boer accent and because they were originally dutch I think we want that kind of accent.
For Portuguese voice acting, anyone Portuguese will do I think
For Zulu voice acting, well unless anyone knows anyone who speaks fluent Zulu I think we are pretty much stuffed
Thanks everyone for posting here,

You don't know if you need a Welsh accent? Of course you need a Welsh accent. How can we have the Defence of Rorke's Drift without a Welsh accent (although it wasn't a Welsh regiment, it had a considerable amount of Welsh people in it)?
And I thought that you had Gordon Highlanders?

Yes, Welsh/Scottish/Irish accents should be most definitely included. I understand that this is a relatively new opportunity for the ZTW team and still formulating their plans, they will soon realise their necessity. :beam:
At the very least the accents will be required for the unit reponses (it would sound extremely twonky for a unit to shout "Highlanders!" in RP). Also, a significant proportion of British commanding officers had those accents and so - to be authentic - you'd have to incorporate them into the general pre-battle speeches. Not sure how you'd make them consistent, perhaps you can do something with traits as the game already uses the traits to decide which segments of speech to pick.
Oh dear, did I just invented an 'English' trait?
I'm not so sure about actually having these speeches in the Zulu dialect, however, as very few people who play it will be able to understand what is being said. Not that that's necessarily a problem, rather you're going to be putting an awful lot of effort into something that people may listen to once and then just click through.
You'll find it a lot easier (and user friendly) to do them in English, with just a strong South Central African accent.

That's very true, people will not understand the Zulu but it would be fun anyway. The reason I say I'm not sure about other UK accents is because we may not include the highlanders as new information leads us to the conclusion that they did not fight in South Africa. Well if anyone can do a good welsh accent then that would be great. It seems to me a rarther stupid accent though, who's ever heard of a vidjo ~;) (instead of video). The idea about the traits is a good one though, just as long as we call the trait something different.
Calling all South Africans, we need a voice actor with a South African accent... please
Thanks again for all your help guys,
Sundjata Keita ~

But you have to have the Welsh! You can't have someone speaking the Queen's English, before going into a rendition of Men of Harlech.

How about cockney Londoners?

How about brummie accents? I'm sure some of the warwickshire regiments had a few in. If anything would turn back the Zulu hordes it would be regiment of Brummie shouting defiance ~D

I think the Geordies would give them a run for their money...
Seriously though, you'll have to be led by your research as to which regiments were there and the accents you'd think it would be appropriate to use. I understand King Azzhole is doing the coding for it, so you might want to ask him if the different dialects for different generals is even possible. If not, then you'll just be able to pick one in any case.
You probably also want to mention how the voices will practically be recorded, is there certain software that the actor has to have in order to record with sufficient quality and in the right format? Or can it be managed by anyone with a PC?
Have you considered recording some speech from movies? There are a fair few around dealing with the period and certainly others from which appropriate British/African voices could be lifted.

Whey aye reet gadgie, Geordie jaa's canny at peelin off Zulus
Well I still need to decide about the program usage, people may have to downoad some software if they don't have their own. Only thing that's needed really is a microphone though. Cockney Londerners, brummies, geordies etc. will be included if possible. Brummie would be a pretty cool trait ~;) . Also we will have welsh and scottish people if we can find the voice actors but mainly we will be using good old Queen's (God bless her) English.

I'm from south africa and know the history and all that, there's alot more tribes(factions) like the venda and xhosa etc. and alot of languages, if you need someone who speaks zulu, go to QQ chatroom, search for it from google.CO.ZA and select 'pages from south africa' and search QQ, you'd have to download some stuff but you should find someone who can help you.

Thank you ctrlaltdelete but we have decided against using a native tongue for the Zulus and other native tribes. I know there are a lot of different languages and tribes, originally we were planning on getting someone South African to say a few words in Zulu, such as Usuthu etc. The battle speeches and stuff will be in English otherwise people would not understand what they were saying. ~:)
Also, I will be sending a pm soon to the people who offered to help, once we have sorted out scripts.

Hey, sorry, I was busy all weekend. To voice act all you need is a microphone and some place quiet. If you don't have any recording software I can point you to some free software on the net to download. We need sounds in wav format and all help is appreciated. However you will have to bear with us for a bit while we sort out the scripts and stuff. ~
