View Full Version : The mighty few !!!
Hello everyone ~
I just had a nice surprise in my Seleucid 2-player PBEM that I have to share. I'd just taken a settlement and sent my general and a few troops to build a watchtower. When they got to the border they ran out of movement points and a full stack Brutii enemy army appeared out of the fog. I ended my turn praying that the Brutii army would not attack but the gods were not shining down on me. As the AI took it's turn the Brutii army attacked my much weaker force. I could not retreat as my small force had run out of movement points. I decided to personally fight the battle even though I thought I would lose badly. I had 267 men against the Brutii's 1373. The Brutii's full stack had many legionary cohorts and a few units of cavalry. My small force consisted of my general, 4 cataphracts and 2 half units of armoured elephants.
Anyway the map had a light tree-line with a road running through the middle. I placed my elephants to the left, half my cataphracts to the right and half the cataphracts in the middle with my general. The Brutii lined up in 2 lines and instead of coming straight on turned slightly towards the elephants on my left. I was worried my elephants would get swamped so charged my cataphracts on my right into his left flank. At the same time I charged my elephants through his lines. Soon after I charged my general and his cataphracts into the centre. Every time my troops got bogged down I would charge my elephants past the biggest group of Brutii. I could not believe it as unit after unit of the Brutii army routed or was destroyed. The final count was 1271 of the Brutii killed and 20 of my own of which 3 were later healed.
I have had many good victories in RTW many down to missiles but not won so well from such an outnumbered position. I don't normally go into battles outnumberd 5 - 1 if I can help it. I know obviously that it was down to my super cavalry and elephants but the Brutii had good quality troops too.

*drools* My skills are not yet strong... I dream at night of victories like yours. Most of the time I only win such victories against rebel infantry using Scythian HA which is as good as saying winning against sitting ducks. In a straight fight like yours, though... Cool stuff!

hehe. try to do that twice the same way. I bet you were so pumped up on adrenaline you were making it up on the fly. It's funny what happens when you're neither complacent nor panicky

I'm enjoying this little argument between Emperor Umeu 1 and MajorFreak. It means i'm not having the argument...
I'm wondering whether to annoy Emp even more.

now now, arrowhead. This is a discussion about Rome Total War, not a forum for personal recriminations. Let's keep it cool. If you two -really- have to fight, though, the Arena is thataway. *points*

For what you say, you were outnumbered, but your army wasn't weaker than the one of your enemy. With superior cavalry than the enemy and armoured elephants fighting against infantry you can slaughter as many enemies as you want if you do it right, as it's clear you did.

It's probably better to take your squabbles to the Tavern not the Arena. The Arena is for discussions regarding games not from the TW series. Tavern is for talking about whatever you want. ~D

Sorry guys but this is getting b
Don't you think the Frontroom is a better place to start off a "fun" hostile thread instead of spamming other member's threads?
Just my thoughts.
Sorry for keeping this thread OT.

Emperor, Arrowhead, I dont know what your relationship toward each other is. I am, however, concerned for the quality of the Colisseum. Attacks on other members are NOT quality posts, and certainly not allowed in a forum dedicated to discussing the single-player aspect of RTW. I am asking you two for the last time, please be civil and follow the rules. This means no more attacks on fellow Org members. If you want a friendly rivalry, the Multiplayer subforums are just for you, and only in the context of ingame, and not on the forums.
Further transgressions will be met with due action.
Thank you,
-Kekvit

No I don't happen to have any screenshots of when I beat a 1480-man Post-Marian Scipii army full of legionary cohorts with 20 chariot archers.. j/k the battle did exist and I lost badly..
EDIT: When I say battle, I mean suicide mission for a plagued general.. ~D
did he manage to spread the plague to the roman army? :P
