View Full Version : 3ds MAX: OK, I'm doing something wrong, obviously...

...but I can't tell exactly what.

==================================

Total 3ds Max noob, here, trying to follow the multiple provided tutorials, and failing.

Here's what I've loaded so far:

(1) Loaded 3ds Max 7.
(2) Loaded CAS_IE_b69.ms.

Here's the steps I've taken:

(1) Opened 3ds Max 7.
(2) Clicked on the "utilities tab" (the Hammer).
(3) Clicked on "MAXScript".
(4) Selected "Run Script".
(5) Chose CAS_IE_b69.ms.
(6) Pulled down and selected "R:TW Import/Export" from the utilities pull-down menu.
(7) Expanded "R:TW Import".
(8) Selected "Import CAS".
(9) Selected "unit_greek_argyraspides_v2_400.CAS" as the file to edit.

At this point, I believe I should be seeing some form of model. Instead, each of the four quadrants (top, front, left, perspective) displays a small purple box with arrows protruding (X/Y axis).

The "hoggy" tutorial now instructs, "collapse all". No buttons or other selections seem to offer this as a choice. Am I missing something?

The next step from hoggy is selecting all vertices and hitting "weld selected". I don't see a command for this, either, but that might be because I haven't gotten to a point where it is relevant.

What am I doing wrong? ~

And yes, I've spent enough time researching tutorials that my wife is seriously pissed, and I still can't find what I need.

Sorry for being so uninformed. Can someone help?

in my experience with 3ds max when u first load a file in it is a mile zoomed out. zoom in a long long way and u may see the model u r missing. apart from that if u r not getting an error message then i have no idea as to y u shouldnt be seeing a model. try zoomin though it worked for me ~;)

Did you get any error messages when the model imported? If it didn't, then zoom right in and all should be OK.

When I get hom, I will try and load up the same CAS file you did, and make sure it works OK, assuming you haven't solved the problem by then!
