Hi all,
I have a single player campaign game going and I have a general with high honour that is stuck with a weak YS. Is there a way to allocate the good general to a better unit, for e.g. a high honour SA? (Of course I could wait for the unit to be depleted and re-forming with another but that is rather stupid). Also, if there is such a way, that means I could give my new heirs a good army at will after they hit 16. Also do daymios always have to be stuck in their hatamoto (spelling?) or can I give them for e.g. a full HC unit?
This problem is taking the fun out of my campaign right now since I have to carry my good general to battles only to get him to sit back and watch helplesly behind since his sucky YS unit would get crush against the better foes.
Any way to get around that?

Unfortunately, generals are stuck with their units and can't be transferred. (However, as for heirs, they're assigned to the first unit trained after they hit 16, so you have some limited control over that.) DaimyƓ are also bound to their 11 HC. Maybe you can try to cultivate the YS a bit by combining it with high-honor unit remnants, or possibly by letting them participate in rout slaughters. But basically, you're stuck with what the general already has: at least it's not YA... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
And having the general in the front line is dangerous anyhow: any opponent worth his/her salts will try to kill him as a first priority.

Well that seems like bad news for my lowly general. It seems to me awfully odd and a major inconvenience that the game did not offer a procedureto take care of that. That would mean that unless I go through the very bothersome, risky and artificial task of weakening systematically my general's unit to later recombine it with a more potent one, then I will be stuck at the end of the game with a highly decorated general commanding a bunch of retards that can't even hold a pole straight.
I understand the need to protect my general. BUT, when the occasion do arise that I his unit needs to take on some heat, I'd rather send in some well trained troops rather than those described above.
Anyway this is a great game; I'm just gonna have to get used to that limitation!

Two points... I've noted on several occasions that I DON'T get to choose the unit
type for some heirs. Having saved game and replayed, a number of different units failed to be assigned the Heir. One Shimazu refused to assign him until I created a ND. Another time a Uesugi heir refused to be assigned until I created a YS.
2nd point...I've noticed that using the Daimyo to assault a castle, decided by auto-calc, resulted in replacing only 10 of his hatamoto. They never were replaced up to full strength. This was in only the 2nd battle in which he'd participated.

The only reason I've noticed for heirs *not* getting assigned is the appearance of an extra-special historical general (you get those guys every once in a while, usually rank 2 or rank 3). Did you try building another unit after the heir failed to take command of the first one? Of course, it could well be another "feature".
The "daimyƓ with 9 hatamoto" thing is possibly due to some undocumented factor, such as not having enough koku to activate 1 HC or not being close enough to one of your castles. Either that or a bug, but it's not a rarity.

"Never, youths, however wretched, / Nor in future, upgrown heroes, / Whether you have large possessions, / Or are poor in your possessions, / In the course of your lifetime, / While the golden moon is shining, / May you woo a golden woman, / Or distress yourselves for silver, /For the gleam of gold is freezing, / Only frost is breathed by silver."
