Hi and welcome to the .org.

First there was the original Shogun game, then came the expansion pack "Mongol Invasion". The Warlord edition combines both into one package.
So, if you already have the original Shogun game, get the expansion. If you don't, get the Warlord edition. Btw, the "Mongol Invasion" can only be installed on top of the original game.

Just a note: I don't think the Mongol Invasions expansion pack, which added on to the original Shogun, was ever made available in the US. I think Warlord Edition was the only option here, which was essentially the "new, expanded" Shogun--a full game and not an expansion install.

Hi Sammy,

Hmm...as tha game grows older there's still quite a lot of people wanted to play this game...just glad to know that people still want to have and play this game.

Bottom line, if you like Japanese history during tha Sengoku Jidai period...you should probably get this game, it's totally recommended. Btw, Warlord Edition definitely.

I live in Vermont (US state in the NE) and had never heard of the expansion until signing up here. I have vanilla STW, still a great game by all accounts.

So the difference is that Mongol Invasion is an upgrade package to bring original Shogun: Total War up to Shogun: Total War (Warlord Edition) standards. It makes vanilla STW into STW:WE.

Just buy STW:WE (unless you can find vanilla STW and MI for less together than WE of course). But if you're buying used, ask the store to let you verify the contents first. If the CD doesn't clearly say 'Warlord Edition' across it, then it's not WE... no matter what the box says! ;)

Well good thing I enjoy the game so much--I paid full price for both the original and WE. No complaints though. I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of both.

Is there any difference between WE and MI exept the campaigns available?

Welcome to the .org Sammy_tsang! I hope you can find the game, I had to order it.(that was WE, last November) Great you decide to buy the game, we don't only get new STW-playing members, but there still are people who start playing STW. ~:)

btw Sammy: please introduce yourself in the thread 'Hail New Members! (introductions)' in the entrance hall, you'll become a full member sooner then. ~;)

Hi Sammy, I would definitely by the WE version if you can find it.It can't be much more expensive than the original game and it's twice as good as the original game (which was already by far the best game ever when it came out!)
