Well the 80% of the NECESSARY for the function of the game is already done in the released beta, out of the 5.5 mb of text code only 2-3 are necessary and obvious the rest are part of the advice and various other functions of the game, the project exist because Greece a country member of the European Union one of the 12 STARS of the founding states is treated as a Third world country by all publishers, RTW is released in RUSSIAN and in Dutch but not in Greek...

Wrong. ~;)
The 12 stars have nothing to do with any number of members...

Quote from http://europa.eu.int/abc/symbols/emblem/index_en.htm

"The number of stars has nothing to do with the number of Member States. There are twelve stars because the number twelve is traditionally the symbol of perfection, completeness and unity. The flag therefore remains unchanged regardless of EU enlargements."
~;)

Apart from that I think it´s a great service you´ve done for the greek people, we germans get german versions for almost everything, so we usually don´t need to translate ourselves.

I didnt know that thanks for correcting me ~
My point just was that after having recieved a reply from a dev:

"AFAIK Greek isn't one of the languages that's being done during localisation.

I don't think many publishers translate into Greek after all that business of games being made illegal. :)

Sorry, so the answer seems to be 'no'"

Concerning the greek localisation of the game pre release this made me and others to make this effort, but I wonder if Russia has less piracy than greece since even MTW was FULLY localised in Russian, and in WarcraftIII they even had voice translation...

How does not releasing the game in Greek equate to classifying Greece as a third world country?

Indeed the twelve stars have a good look to them, but initially that was the idea. Each star representing a member state, but that soon became moot with Sweden, Finland and Austria entering the community. It was realized that increasing the number of stars was going to create a sort of 'temporary' effect every time people looked at it, not a good situation. So for stability it was decided that the twelve stars were retained.

Well if you consider the fact that NO holywood movie is doubled in Greek just with subtitles, no game is localised in greek (only if its from a greek developer) the whole greek language being ignored as non existant you get the picture...

Dubbing is about the stupidest thing ever invented outside cartoons or similar movies. You lose a lot of flavour and without it you encourage people to actually get to know other languages. Besides dubbing is made your own country, not the greatest argument in the book.
And localizing the games? Well should I consider Danish to be equated to a third world language? Hardly. The market is just not big enough.

Well, cater for Chinese like me! Can you imagine the Scythian warlord going on and on with reams of Chinese? XD XD That would be SO cool! But jokes aside, if they have localisations, they ought to make Asian ones too. Like Indian, or something.

Kraxis is right. There's no need to gripe and accuse people of treating your country as "a third world country" just because everything isn't translated to your language. Comparing the treatment with that of Russia is useless: Greece has 11 million inhabitants, ranking it as one of the small to midsized European countries (just like Sweden). Russia has 143 million inhabitants. You do the math.

And on the Greek complaining about not being treated as well as Germany, England and France in the EU (a complaint I've heard a lot by now): Greece has a rather shoddy economy and a rather small population. It's the truth. We can't let you run things just because you once built Acropolis.

Sweden doesn't get much to say in the EU, since we're also a rather small country (but with a tad better economy than Greece). Tough luck, the EU isn't a egalitarian community, so we'll have to live with it. Neither is the market: smaller countries get treated worse, since we include fewer wallets. And on dubbing and translating: one of the main reason why Scandinavians are better at English than most southern European countries is that we don't dub movies or TV. Really, it's that simple. When comparing countries, there's a direct connection between how much the country dubs and how shoddy their English is. I'm glad noone dubs anything here, since it enabled me to learn English.

So well, go ahead and translate the game. But don't complain about the lack of localization, since few countries your size gets it. And don't complain when you realize it is part of the reason why south Europe is less attractive on the international market, since you don't learn English, covered as you are in dubbed products (don't get me started on Spain...).

Dubbed products in Greece?
have you EVER been in Greece?
MOST stores have ENGLISH names, All TV is half english we get EVERYTHING with subtitles, our leaders speak english EVERY time they are out of the country!!!
Ive mentioned Russia since a TW developer stated as an argument for RTW not being localised in Greek that supposedly Greece has a high level of piracy...Well and Russia hasnt ~:joker: ~:joker: ~:joker: ~:joker: ~:joker: ...
1c company LOCALISED MTW-VI and RTW in FULL Russian even Warcraft III voices are in Russian in that game!!!
Holland has 16-17 millions inhabitanats which isnt that higher than greece but they got RTW localised.
The point here isnt if Greece should run EU or not its just IF GREECE is a member of EU that means something about its democracy and political stability. RTW is set at a time that over half of the world was speaking Greek I believe that if we as amateurs Localised the game it wouldt take so long for proffessionals.

RTW is released in RUSSIAN and in Dutch but not in Greek...

Holland has 16-17 millions inhabitanats which isnt that higher than greece but they got RTW localised.
RTW was never released in Dutch. Likely it never will be. And there about 16 million Dutchmen and 6 or 7 million Belgians that speak Dutch as their primary language, making a total of about 22 million (not counting any Surinamese or Antilleans who might speak Dutch as well).
So there are about twice as much Dutch speakers as Greek speakers, am I right? Still, RTW isn't released in Dutch, all movies and tv-series (except for those for kids) are subtitled as well (Thank God for that, nothing is as lame as dubbing, just watch German television). Also, all our politicians our obliged to speak English in foreign countries as well (never heard a foreign politician speak Dutch. Ever. Just listen to the Dutch Secretary General of NATO Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. Ever hear someone pronounce that right?).

And really, I can't say I mind. Absolutely, a Greek Mod is cool, don't understand me wrong, but don't pretend Greek language is worse off then most smaller languages in the world.

Edit: Sorry, only saw after my post that the discussion has ended. Enjoy the Greek mod!
