Ask in the Apothecary, you might get some answers there. I didn't get any answers but you might.

I think the problem is in your PC registry. So, you might use one of the registry cleaners so your pc don't consider the game is still installed. You can find free programs in www.download.com . Inform a post if it worked. I wish to see myselfe helpfull. ~:)

I myself am having an unistall/reinstall problem. I've been going round and round with Activision's support people trying to get it resolved and I think I am getting closer. When I unistall the game the progress indicator sits on one bar forever before it begins to progress. I estimate the average uninstall time takes roughly 25-30 minutes, but it does uninstall. It will, however, leave some reigstry keys behind and when you try and reinstall through patch 1.2 it will tell you that 1.2 has already been installed. One of Activision's people sent me a small registry file that deletes the registry keys left behind by the unistall and allows me to reinstall complete with patch 1.2. Now though, even though the complete install process for 1.2 runs, the game isn't actually patched. I'm waiting to hear back from them on that subject.

Try uninstalling again and this time give it a long time to finish, go watch tv or something so you don't get frustrated. Good luck. ~;)

I had the same problem when I tried to reinstall the latest patch. Eventually I had to use the .zip file to reinstall the patch, but I never was able to clean up the Registry or whatever it was that was blocking me.

Good luck with your endeavor

This is a known problem. As I see it I believe you are talking about Rome TotalWar yes? and not any of the other series. The problem has been reported along with numerous other bugs (yes even though we have already had 2 patches due to CA's screwup) and there has been reports of replys at the net which inlcude an expansion pack being release in mid september for Rome, which should resolve numerous bugs as well as expand on the already ever popular Rome. For now all I can advice trying is reinstalling the game over or should I say into the same folder as it is already present in and this will basically over write any screwed up data, then once this is done please notify us and we will take it from there.

I will do some research into this in the mean time as it is a problem for many.
